I saw it yesterday. Knew I shouldn't look at it (in light of the fact that my Lab currently has cancer), but did anyway. Was weepy for a long time after that. But I loved it. So well done, and Duke was so incredibly fortunate to have a family that loved him so much.

Nope, not even gonna look. Saw a link to it earlier and got a lump in my throat just from the picture!

Right there with ya Debbie. I'm not looking either. It would take me 10 years to get over it.

Just can't read it now as my 8 yr old lab lounges at my feet. I got teary eyed just hearing about it. Maybe another time.

That was beautiful.
When we knew it was time for our doggie about 2 years ago, the vet was ready. But we wanted "one last day". We took him home, loved on him, let him sit in the sun one last time and hugged and hugged. He was just too sick for too much more. When he left us, we were still hugging him and looking into his eyes and telling him how much we loved him and thanked him for giving us so much unconditional love for his 13 years with us. We still miss him.
He was the source of my Pea Name - DoxieLady.

I watched it earlier and was a crying fool. So sad but so beautiful. We had a vet come to the house for our cat and it's been a few years but we still miss her.

:crying:Just got back from the vet, new kittens needed their shots, and the weeping from one room had me in tears. A young girl was having her dog put down. There is no way I can click that link right now

I read the article on facebook. I loved how Duke looked so happy and loved as the vet was getting ready to give him the shot. The owners looks was so very heartbreaking.

I just read/looked at that on FaceBook. How terribly sad, but so very beautiful. What a fabulous way to pay tribute to a loved family member.

tears aplenty... reminds me of my dog's last day. the vet cried with us. It's been 4 years since then and we're just now ready to start thinking about another dog.

I thinks Duke's last day was the opposite of heart-breaking. Death is usually sad. His was happy and fun. I want hamburgers and a waterpark on my last day.

Saw this on Facebook today. We put our black lab, Lobo, down last Saturday. Tears, but DH and I both thought it was weird. The first-person narrative just struck us both as weird. It was nice, and I get it, but it just struck me as off and a whole lot of putting our human emotions on our animal companions. I think the joy of having an animal companion is the yin and yang of it all and it just didn't hit me the way I thought it would.
Who knows what our companions think on that last day? Do they even know? I'm not saying there isn't something to it, I guess I'm just saying it struck me as slightly off to presume we know what they think or feel when part of the reason we choose to live with them is they mystery of who and what they are.
I don't know...maybe I'm weird too.
