Awesome job!! My dh drinks a lot of diet soda and I can't get him to quit. I drink water almost all the time.

WOW!!! I wasn't anywhere near your level of commitment to that many soft drinks in one day but I did give em up for Lent and never looked back. I was only drinking one or two a day. Rarely did I even drink a full second one. But 6-7 per day plus a 2 liter is a LOT!!!
Way to go!

I am so backwards! I always feel "full" when I drink diet soda and it keeps me from eating more junk food. But I know that they say that diet soda makes you feel hungry and that's what it does to my husband. If I could experience that, it would be much easier for me to give up diet soda. I am trying no beverages after 7:00pm.
I love diet green tea, but it does have aspartame. I want to try making it at home and putting truvia in it, and lessening it each time. I have tried iced tea without any sugar/artificial sweetners and didn't like it. My inlaws love it, so I think it's possible.
I am so impressed by people who love to just drink water. I wish I could do that. I think for me, summer would be the best time to try to give it up (diet soda). It's my favorite season and there is so much to do, and I am just happier in general.
congratulations to all who have stopped drinking soda!

Good for you!! I applaud you for not only taking on your friend's challenge, but going way above and beyond it!
I'm on a slow journey to remove sugar from my life completely. I started 4 weeks ago by eliminated all sugar beverages - soda, juice, caramel macchiatos (sigh), etc. All I drink now is water, iced tea, fruit infused water and plain iced lattes. I really miss juice some days - especially when we go out to breakfast.

I am so addicted to Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi! I go to Costco all the time for their fountain drinks (and samples!). I tried seltzer water and didn't like it but I like sparkling water. When I tried to go off diet soda I ate so much junk food. But did you notice a difference in feeling good without the soda? I would love to be able to do that, you should be proud! Aren't you the pea that has a recipe coming up in Taste of Home? I remember peamailing you last year about it. You know, the one thing I noticed when I first quit was that I wasn't hungry all.the.time. It seemed like when I was drinking the soda, I was always hungry. Its like my brain was telling me "what can we eat now?" all the time. I don't get that as much anymore. I think its because I'm cutting so far down on the artificial sweeteners. I am the pea with the recipe that is supposed to be in Taste of Home this year. Haven't gotten the call yet though! I just submitted a new recipe in their Summer Desserts contest - Triple Berry Trifle. I quit diet soda about two or three years ago and don't miss it at all. When I really want a soda, maybe once a week, I have a root beer. When I go to lunch, I will have plain iced tea. I've always preferred my tea unsweetened. There have been studies that show that diet soda is more likely to lead to weight gain than regular soda. There's a theory that the sweet taste (and some artificial sweeteners are sweeter than sugar) signals your body to expect incoming calories. You release insulin, but it doesn't have anything to work on, so you end up hungrier than if you had just had a soda with sugar. Of course, most sodas now have HFCS. That's also sweeter than regular sugar and may cause higher consumption as well. But, as they say, moderation is the key. I used to go through the equivalent of 4-6 cans of Diet Coke a day. Now, I'm only drinking one or two root beers a week. Guess what? The occasional soda isn't causing any weight gain. No loss, but no gain either.

Congrats!!! About 6-7 mons ago, I quit all soda. I was really disliking the way it was making me feel...all bloated and icky after drinking it. So I quit. I've craved it a few times but I've found carbonated flavored water that does the trick. I drink water or unsweetened ice tea or coffee with just a little Truvia (like 1/2 packet). I don't miss it a bit.

Congratulations and welcome to the club! I gave up diet soda on July 7, 2012 and I haven't even been tempted to drink another--or regular soda, for that matter. Very occasionally I'll have a San Pellegrino Arranciata, but that's about it. I felt much better off soda immediately, which is to say, I felt much better once I started drinking water.

Way to go! I've been wanting to give up my Diet Coke addiction for a while now, but I just haven't gotten up the will power to do it. I suffer from minor headaches almost every afternoon, and I swear it's probably the Diet Cokes causing them. I have managed to cut down to one a day, but I'm also trying to cut my calories and add in exercise to lose weight, and I'm afraid if I do too much at once I'll just totally cave. You're definitely inspiring me.

Holy crap, I can't believe anyone could drink that much soft drink!!! Good on you for breaking the habit. I rarely drink soft drink so I don't quite get the addiction to it, but having been a smoker in a past life I do understand how hard it is to overcome any addiction. Way to go!

That's a lot of soda a day. I gave up soda and artificial sweetners 18 months ago. I haven't missed it at all. So are you going to stay off the soda now ? Do you realize how this comes across? I got very sick in march and wasn't able to keep anything down. I went days without my diet Pepsi (which I practically mainline) and stopped drinking it altogether. But damn I missed it I slipped back into it and now I love the caffeine but hate that I drink it. I will give it another go, but I'm not gonna lie and say "I won't miss it at all" because I will. I will need to find a delicious alternative. Congrats OP that is really awesome!

Not to mention, all the bad bad stuff I've read about Nutrasweet - and now even Splenda is getting a bad rap because they only ever did one big study on it before introducing it. Apparently we're not totally digesting it and they are finding it in the water supply and that can't be good!

Great job!! I haven't had one in 11 months. I gave up sodas and sweetened drinks (both sugar and artificial sweeteners) at the same time. That first week was ROUGH, especially no sugar in my coffee. However, I got used to it. I don't know about the sodas, but now sugar in coffee tastes awful. The tough part is that I still crave them pretty much daily. Luckily, it is a manageable craving, not as intense as in the beginning. And I am too stubborn at this point to break my "streak".

I was having horrible headaches, not migraine level, but because they were happening daily it was really impacting my life. I guess I talked about it enough that my mother finally said something to me about how often I said I said I had a headache. Almost at about the same time I read a thread at 2P's about the effect of artificial sweeteners and apparently, there are people that have an allergy to the aspartame that can cause headaches. (this was years ago.)
I did a bunch of research and figured I would stop drinking artificially sweetened drinks (my beloved diet coke) and anything else that aspartame.
Turns out, it worked for me. No more headaches.
Every once in a whole I crave, crave, crave a McDonald's diet coke (aka nectar of the gods) and give in. I almost always get a headache afterwards.
Congratulations! I bet you will find that there are other bonuses to quitting the diet drinks!
