I saw the commercial yesterday. At first I didn't know what it was, but when I noticed the entrance to Wallyworld, and then Ed Helms driving his family in a car, I got a horrible sinking feeling. And then yes, there it was, my worst fears confirmed - the title of the movie, "Vacation." WTF?!
IS NOTHING SACRED? Will my childhood memories never cease to be violated?
The original movie with Chevy Chase is perfect. There is NO need for a remake, just re-release the old one. Surely it's only a matter of time before we see the remake of "the Godfather" starring Matt Damon or something. I can't stand it. GAHHHH! I need to go lay down now.

It's not a remake. It's supposed to be Rusty taking his own family on a vacation. So it'll probably be similar, but not a redo.
I freaked too the first time I saw it.

They technically aren't remaking it. They are remaking it within the movie. They even reference the original vacation in one of the commericals. I thought that was a very smart way to do it and I love the cast. I'm hoping it will be good.

OMG, thank you, Pierkiss, for setting my mind at ease on this important matter! And yay! Now I want to see it. But now that I think of it - why the hell didn't they get Anthony Michael Hall to star in it? I mean he is the ACTUAL Rusty and he's still acting. How cool would that have been?!

I really like Anthony Michael Hall but I don't know if he can carry a comedy like Ed Helms.

Haha! No problem. I want to see it too. I think the reason they didn't cast Anthony Michael Hall is to continue the gag of never having the same Rusty and Audrey in any of the movies. That, and I think Ed Helms is WAY funnier than AMH.

I just read this on Wikipedia, and in that case I guess it makes sense that we'd have a fourth Rusty!

We saw the preview, they took "gross" to a whole new level. We're mid road trip now, we should watch the old version.

But I still think it would be cool if they are going to do them all over again, to use the original Rusty's - next they could do Christmas Vacation with the children of Rusty, AKA Dr. Leonard Hofstetter, AKA Johnny Galecki; with their crazy Aunt Audrey, AKA Juliette Lewis.

I never knew that about having different children in each movie. I will go to watch it, but nothing will ever be as good as the originals. I still find it weird to see Leonard from Big Bang theory in it.

Thanks for bringing this up. I had no idea they were releasing a sequel to Vacation. I love the original and this one looks pretty funny too.

As long as they don't touch my Christmas Vacation!
I look forward to watching, neat idea to make a movie about going back with Rusty's family.

The original and Christmas Vacation are classics and still funny to watch. Speaking of Seinfeld quotes from your other thread...Vacation and Christmas Vacation are endlessly quotable! "Real tomato ketchup Eddie?" I won't run to the theater for this one, but I'll watch it eventually when it comes out on DVD. Hopefully, it will be a true homage to the great original.

Yes it's a joke that Rusty and Audrey are re-cast in every movie. This new movie looks incredibly stupid.

We are huge Vacation franchise fans in this house and will definitely see the new one in the theatre. I agree that a remake would have been a travesty but this reboot has potential.

I liked but didn't love the Vacation movie where they go to Wally World. My favorite by far is Christmas Vacation.

My dh can't wait to see this. I could wait until the DVD but I see a trip to the movies in my future. Last year we drove to Disneyland and we watched Vacation the night before we left. Definitely not the movie to watch before a road trip.

Ohhh. I thought it was a remake too and wondered why there were two boys in the back seat.
Now it makes sense and I feel better about the movie.

My 15-year old watched it for the first time last week. After the mom blamed herself for Clark 'straying' with Christie Brinkley, he asked, "What the hell, was this movie made in the 50s?"

I saw the preview before the new Magic Mike. The preview was about 100000000 times better than the movie we were there to see.
