DD has been asked to interview for three different teaching positions on Wednesday. She asked what she should wear to the interviews...I'm not a teacher and have no idea what would be appropriate.
Normally I would say a straight skirt and blouse/jacket and nice leather, not too out there shoes with minimal accessories. She has a cute, modest, knee length dress that she was thinking about wearing but I wonder if it isn't dressy enough? (It's not a sun dress or too casual. More dressy.) If it makes a difference she will be interviewing for elementary age positions.

Back on a similar 2peasnthread I think the majority said she needs to wear a suit and present herself as a professional, even though some others said a dress was fine. She may be competing with others for the job and presenting herself in professional attire may give her the edge.

Does she have a blazer that can go over the dress? I've seen that worn too besides a suit. Yes, shoes should be nice and practical not super high stilt heels.

A dress should be fine. My go-to interview outfit is a black sheath dress with a dressy cardigan and low pumps. Keep hair neat and off the face.

Having interviewed 50 or more teachers over the last few months. Suit, skirt or any professional looking outfit.
I can't honestly say i remember much about what anyone wore.. I mainly remember what they said about their love of learning!

I always wore a suit when I interviewed for teaching positions, but I think a nice dress would be fine too. A friend of mine just interviewed for a teaching job last week and wore a dress. She ended up getting the job, so apparently the school thought it was an okay choice!  |

I have also interviewed countless teaching candidates and have never expected them to wear a suit. Elementary teachers do not teach in suits. I think it is silly to go buy an outfit you will only wear to interview in.
Tell your daughter to dress in something she's comfortable and confident in, but professional -- nice slacks or a skirt and a cardigan... A dress, etc. Tell her not to buy something that she won't wear again...and good luck!

I agree that a dress works well for teaching interviews. It has been a while since I have helped interview candidates, but I only cared that the person looked well put together. A nice skirt and blouse is also fairly common.
I do have to add that it may depend on your geographical location. People here often dress more casually than I have seen in other parts of the country.

I wore a suit when I interviewed for teaching positions. Actually it was the only time I ever wore that suit.  And as an aside my first principal really wanted us to look professional and the dress code reflected it. Only hose or trouser socks allowed, no jeans and she kept saying that news anchors wore 3 piece suits and we should too! |
