Which do you do more of ... scrapping or shopping? I know at times I do more shopping., but I'm making an effort to do more scrapping. I have been watching youtube videos lately of scrap rooms and some of them are shocking. Some of y'all got a lot of stuff! I can't imagine how it could possibly be all used. I just know that sometimes I wonder if the hobby is more shopping for supplies than scrapping. I hope this isn't coming off judgmental. It's not meant that way at all. I just find it fun looking at other people's spaces and seeing their stuff. I know a lot of people have been talking about being on a spending freeze and I got to wondering if the average scrapper does more shopping than creating.

I personally am trying to do more scrapping then shopping. I used to do a lot of shopping, but now I just try to buy what I absolutely need. Doing the challenges that are being posted here are really helping me get my mojo back and helps me use up what is in my stash.

I like to do both. I do scrap a lot and need to use more product on my pages so I can buy more!

For the last few years, I could pretty honestly answer NEITHER. Most of my stuff was packed, which meant not much scrapping. And since I have limited opportunities to go somewhere decent to buy stuff, the shopping was limited too by default (I like to see things IRL before I buy, usually). If I had an opportunity to go somewhere I would shop, and if I had the opportunity to scrap, I would scrap. But neither one happened all that often.
Now that my space is coming together my plan is definitely to scrap more. I have a big stash and loads of projects that have been sitting on ice for a LONG time, so hopefully by this fall I'll have things together enough down there to sit down and knock a few things off of my to do list!

I go through cycles...I just had a big binge of scrapping, coming back from my latest crop...so now I'm dabbling in some purchasing to enhance and motivate my scrapping at home. For instance, after watching several Tim Holtz videos, I bought the Ranger non-stick craft mat, TH mini-blending tool and some stencils, plus sets 1-12 of the mini-distress inks (<<<good sale price at JoAnns). I was inspired and now I have the tools to go forth and create again! So back to scrapping more!

I think it kind of depends on what phase you are at with scrapping. I've been doing it for 15+ years so I don't nearly shop as much as I used to. I can't even imagine what I used to spend. I probably only spend about $100 a year on supplies now, I'm very picky and only get what I know I will use. I probably spend about the same on getting photos printed or digital books, software, etc.
I def learned having more doesn't necessarily mean more scrapping or easier scrapping. I've gotten rid of tons of supplies in the past year and in turn I've actually scrapped more. I think too much supplies can be overwhelming.
That said, I totally get that when you are first into the hobby, a huge part of it is all this pretty stuff!

I scrap more than I shop, for sure.
But shopping really energizes my desire to scrap.
I love finding something new and using it right away.

I have been scrapping for 14 years. I still love the shopping part. Yesterday I did an inventory of six supplies or tools and it took seven hours. I have typed lists of things so I don't double purchase. I just made sure all of the new things I had were on the inventory. I think I like to organize as much as shop. I retired in May and one of my goals is to purge and organize (on paper).

I do both equally these days. About a year ago, and for several years prior, I wasn't shopping AT ALL, other than adhesive. I was on a few design teams, so I worked with the stuff given to me. Honestly a lot of that stuff I have since purged if it wasn't stuff I would have bought myself or if it was leftover scraps from those assignments and I knew I'd never pull it out again bc I was tired of it. Now that I have my room organized and only kept the stuff I really love, I am on a scrapping roll! I've been doing a lot. I also realized I have a big "hole" in my stash. Like very few little boy appropriate papers. And I have a little boy. So I have been allowing myself to buy whatever I want in that category, because I am using it. Also birthday themed stuff. Again, I had almost none and I had three years of DS's various birthday photos to do. So I allowed myself to buy that stuff as well. And 6x6 pads. I had one. Started watching some YouTube videos about using them and wanted more. So I've been buying a collection of those too and working my way through the videos/classes. New stuff excites & inspires me and I try to use it soon after purchasing it. I even put new stuff in a basket on my desk (especially embellishments) to encourage me to use them right away. I have also looked at some rooms on YouTube and thought, "Whoa." But I'm sure people would say that about my space as well, even though I have considerably less than most of the room tours I've seen. Some need to have everything at their fingertips. Others like to buy per project. I'm somewhat in the middle of that

I did a big purge when we moved and don't shop that much now. I need to do another big purge -- I mostly got rid of books, magazines, punches, and inks, and what I need to do now is get rid of a lot of paper. It's harder than I thought,
I've been scrapping a lot since we moved. All of my supplies that I use often are out, so the pages are flying.

It depends on the time of year for me. During the school year I am lucky if I get one page a week completed. Right now I'm completing a layout or card almost every day. My shopping seems to be pretty even throughout the year. I make a purchase once every couple of months.

I do quite a bit of both these days. After my LSS closed about 8 years ago, I kind of lost my inspiration and didn't scrap much. It didn't occur to me to look elsewhere. One day, about two years ago, I stumbled across Two Peas, and found a new community to belong to. I started scrapping again and discovered lots of beautiful ideas.
My purchasing ramped up considerably once I took over a room to use as my own last summer. I love all of my new supplies. Most of them are older lines from discount stores and websites, but it was all new to me! While my studio is nothing like the loaded rooms out there, it's pretty well stocked, organized and easy to work in. If I had been shopping at this rate for the last decade, I could see how you could fill a room from floor to ceiling.

Definitely shop more that I scrap. I wish it were the opposite but when I watch all the videos out there, I am so easily influenced by all the products being used, before I know it I've placed another order. Half of my stash has never even been used...

I don't use a lot of product and I shop very little. But yesterday I was in H.L. for nsbr reason and they had kits on clearance for 5.99. I got one of each.

@elaynef Great score! We just got a HL here. It's only been open a week. I am NOT going in there until I complete my "freeze".
I tend to binge shop. I won't buy a thing for months, then buy a bunch of stuff.
I do scrapbook almost everyday. I think I can unpack my scrapbook stuff in two weeks!!! I can't wait. Between all the fun on our happy hour last Thursday and the videos I have been watching, I am really inspired again.

I scrap more. I have no more LSS so except for a trip to the local Michaels or AC Moore for something specific I don't really need anything.
However, when an opportunity arises, like CKC in a few weeks, I will be shopping my socks off.

It varies for me depending on what is happening in my life. I have a fairly decent stash, but mainly because I bought a lot when the last remaining LSS was going out of business. When they were still open, I bought as often as I scrapped.

This past year I have scrapped more than I shopped. I have mostly bought albums, refills, adhesive and photo developing. Some years I shopped more than I scrapped and other years I scraps as much as I shopped!

I go in spurts of both. Lately I've been shopping more than scrapping but I have a bigger project that I've been buying supplies for and I know once I get started on that I will definitely do way more scrapping than shopping.
My goal is to not have to buy any more storage for my stash so if things are starting to get to capacity I put myself on a spending freeze until I've completed a set no of layouts and work on using up my pretties. I love the feeling of using the last of something.

I try to make my shopping equal to the amount of scrapping I plan to do. I don't have a huge stash by Refupea standards but would actually like it to be much smaller. I did spend a bit in May or so, so have put myself on a freeze until I get 50 pages completed...I'm working on it and should do a count to see how far I've got to go!

It varies...lately I've been pretty even with shopping and creating. I just wish I could use up all my supplies...I'd feel really good then and treat myself to a shopping spree.

I think about that also but I know it's unrealistic for me to use everything. But I sometimes challenge myself to make a certain # of layouts/projects before buying anything or make a certain number of projects from a specific set of supplies.

Scrapping. It used to be shopping but several years ago, I decided to reorganize everything (every. single. thing.) and to see the accumulation all together in one place snapped me out of my shopping stupor. Now, I shop for adhesives, albums, and a little scrap stuff here and there. I'm starting to feel a sense of accomplishment when I use something up and for now, I've decided not to replace those things.

It varies. 2005-2009, with the birth of dd and a move, not much scrappy stuff going on, but lots of ideas and I'd buy like I was still scrapping. Huge mistake!!! I've purged a couple of times. I did have good intentions. When I finally started getting better, I'd buy a few embellishments here or there or a collection kit as new stuff inspires me. In 2012, I purchased a kit club. Loved the new stuff, but then we were moving again so I unsubscribed. Learned from my past mistakes (see old dogs can learn new tricks). Now I'm getting my room in order of sorts and I think I might subscribe to a kit club again. Getting new supplies inspires, but I first want to use a bit of my older stash up.

I just went back to work full time and with 3 kids and a husband, it's definitely been Shop more! It scratches the scrapbooking itch when I don't have the time to actually scrapbook. Wish I could just add more hours to my day so I did have more time to scrap!
