This started on July 2nd.
Headache right between the eyes cough crap draining down the back of my throat constantly no energy no appetite (I keep forgetting to eat, I'm just not hungry and the only things that sound appealing are ice cream and watermelon). low fever (99.5) off and on for the entire week.
I went to Urgent Care the other day (Day 6) because I felt so awful all day and she said it's "going around" and to drink fluids, she prescribed a nasal spray and suggested a Neti Pot because nothing is draining out of my nose and if I can get my nose to drain everything will be fine. She said it's not a sinus infection because my face does not hurt.
I can breathe through my nose just fine and the nasal spray, steam baths etc are not making a bit of difference.
Today is day 8 of whatever this is and I still feel just as miserable as I did on Day 1.
DH thinks I need to be patient and wait a few more days before going back to the doctor (which would be the weekend when the doctors office is not open). I've never been sick for 8 days in my entire life. This is my summer vacation, I'm supposed to be having fun, not laying on the couch all day because it's too much effort to get up.
Thanks for listening, I'm just tired of feeling like crap I guess.

(((Hugs)))
I'd go back to the doctor's. There are sinuses all over your face including over your eyebrows that almost meet at the middle, so could be the source of your headache.

Sounds like the same symptoms when my allergies flare up. Try allergy meds?

The Urgent Care Doctor said it wasn't allergies because of the fever. Also one of my kids has the same cough which started at the same time as mine although he doesn't have any of the other symptoms, just the cough.

Go see your regular doctor. In the meantime, try Sudafed-the behind the counter kind and maybe some Flonase- it's a steroid nasal spray and is now over the counter.

I run a fever with my allergies and if your child has the same cough, he could potentially have the same allergy.

It sounds like the same crud I'm dealing with. I have the nasal drip, the cough, the headache, and the low grade fever. I am on about day 6, I've just been keeping up with my fluids and resting. I was chalking it up to the odd weather we have been having, it was very humid for a long time and now it is very dry, it makes my body go whacko.

Even if it's not allergies sometimes the meds can be just as helpful. I have problems with fluids in my ears and getting a lot of infections, I start taking allergy meds to clear all that gunk out!

Sounds like a sinus infection/allergies. When i feel like that i take an extra strength mucinex with a ton of water, and something with phenylephrine (sudafed makes me feel like crap).

I dislike urgent care because they just don't seem to want to diagnose or do it correctly.
Go see your regular doctor.
If you can't get in, try musinex-d and add an allergy med if needed.

That sounds like a sinus infection. I agree with the Sudafed recommendation. You can also use an allergy medication that has a D at the end. Allegra-d or zyrtec-d. They will help to decongest. If you don't feel better soon, ask for a CT scan to look at the sinuses.

Urgent Care doctors are sometimes not very good at diagnosing. I've seen a few that I've wondered how in the world they ever got their medical license. ALWAYS follow up urgent care visits with your own dr. if not better.
I used to see an allergist and get allergy shots. My allergies have led to many severe sinus infections which include a fever. Symptoms include drainage down the back of the throat creating sore throat and or cough. It then leads to sinus pain as it progresses and then into sinus infection W/ fever because of the infection. All because allergies make your nasal passages swell. I had nasal surgery and now use Zyrtec daily with Nasocort as needed. I no longer have any of the above listed symptoms. karen

Just finished an over the phone appointment because there were no real appointments available anywhere. Over the phone doctor basically told me it's a virus, there's nothing else we can go for you, and it's only been a week, your looking at 2-3 more weeks before you feel better, sorry.
Ugh.

The bolded? SOOOO much. One of the two medical reasons my doctor wants me to move is because my allergies lead to severe sinus infections on a regular basis. Go back to your regular doctor and ask about a sinus infection.

If you have no medical issues try zyrtec-D and flonase
typically it takes 2 weeks for an infection to brew in the sinuses.
Hope you feel better soon!!

Yes I still have the fever.
I'm taking Mucinex which is helping with the cough.
The doctor said it was a "viral sinus infection" but since it's a virus there is nothing they can give me. The key to everything is to get my nose to run. My Neti pot is supposed to be here today...

I know that kind of misery well. If you hate the netipot (it can be very tricky to use because of having to tilt your head so oddly), I highly recommend the NeilMed Sinus Irrigation System. It is a plastic bottle and to use it you just have to lean forward over the sink. I have decades of experience with severe sinus pain, and when it gets bad I use my NeilMed 3x a day. I hope you find relief soon. hugs to you!

He may be right about it being a virus initially but it's not uncommon for a bacterial infection to present after a few days. A fever that lasts longer than 5-6 days should be taken more seriously by your physician. If it's a sinus infection, it's not going to go away on its own or by taking over-the-counter medication. Also, I know some people have had some success with congestion by using a Neti Pot but it can also make the situation worse. I'd see another doctor.

Exactly. I do not take antibiotics willy nilly but my Dr. Said once my sinus infection turned into a bacterial infection she had to prescribe it. It knocked it right out. Hope you feel better, I know it's awful.

Go back to your regular doctor and ask about a sinus infection. I had all of the above symptoms - after about 6 months of sinus infections not getting better, my doctor ordered an MRI of my sinuses. I had a cyst that was completely blocking the drainage in one of my sinuses. I had surgery to have it removed and have done great since then. (I also started on allergy shots, and that has helped a lot, too!).

Hope you feel better, I know it's awful. Is your snot or mucus thick and green or brown-- or clear? Because if it's clear, it's probably not a bacterial infection and antibiotics probably will not work. As I get older, it takes me longer to kick these things. Sucks – but true. Lots and lots of water, Mucinex, get on a daily routine of allergy meds, more water, the Neti pot and be patient.

I was going to ask about the snot too. The pain sounds exactly like a sinus headache. The fever is pretty low grade which is probably why the doctors aren't too concerned.
You said you are taking mucinex, are you taking anything at all for your sinuses? If not, that is probably why you don't feel better. I get a cough when my sinuses are bad because of all the crap dripping down my throat. The cough goes away when I treat the sinuses. Netti pots seem to make mine worse. Try some sinus medicine and see how you feel.

I'm taking Mucinex, Nasonex (nasal spray) and Sudafed (at night because it knocks me out) or Dayquil and my snot is yellowish (what I can hack up to look at anyway).
I'm still just as miserable as ever and I can't get my nose to run.
I will be making another doctor appointment and taking DH with me so he can tell the doctor how worthless I am keeping the couch warm all day.

Try some sinus medicine and see how you feel. I take two sudafed (original, behind the counter stuff) and two Advil for my sinus headaches, use the NeilMed Sinus rinse 3 times a day for great relief, and I take one of those flaxseed filled cloth eye masks and heat it in microwave. applying heat on my forehead after taking hte meds helps me a great deal too. How are you feeling now? And I have to tell you, after 4 years of moving to a new climate/region, I had what docs thought was severe sinus infectin. Ten weeks, intense pain and lots of green mucus, 4 rounds of antibiotics. That was autumn. Same thing happened every spring and every autumn for TEN YEARS till we took severe allergy eliminating measures at home. I hope this isn't the start of a routine of misery for you, but if it continues for much longer, please do see an allergist. hugs to you~!
