UPDATE: I jut ordered two of the white 8 cube Better Homes & Gardens shelves from WalMart to be shipped to the store. They are supposed to be here by July 30th. I hope their shipping really isn't that slow! Will give another update as to if they arrived damaged, etc. when they get here. Thanks everyone for the input.
I'm in the midst of moving and reorganizing my scrap space. I need some shelves for album storage and think I'm going to go with the Better Homes and Gardens 8 Cube Organizer. It's basically an Expedit/Kallax knockoff and I live 2.5 hours from an Ikea.
Here's my dilemma: I really want the white, but I've been told by someone at the store that they don't carry the white and it's only available online. I'm worried that if I order it, it will arrive damaged and I'll have to hassle with returning it to the store. This seems to be a common complaint in the online reviews. They have an expresso color and a weathered wood color in stock at my local store. I don't want expresso because it shows dust so fast. The weathered wood looks to me like it's trying to mimic the pallet furniture/scrap wood look ,but I don't hate it.
So WWYD? Order the white and hope it arrives undamaged? Or go with the in stock color that I could go get right now?

This one was hard for me. I have the 1x4 units of the same stuff in Espresso. I have two stacked on their sides for an entertainment center. While I do love them, I have 2 blonde dogs and lots of dust. I can dust and in 1 hour, I am already seeing dog hairs. It is frustrating.
I did not have to order mine, I got them at the store. I wonder why there is such an issue with the delivery of the stuff? Is it because the boxes are being damaged? I could go find the reviews, but I'll own it. I am lazy.
What type of furniture do you have in your room now? If they have the weathered wood in-store, I might make a run and look at it. I do like the look online but does it look like that IRL? I went with white in the poll. While I don't hate the weathered wood, it does look unfinished to me. That is why I would want to see it in person.

They do have the weathered wood in store but it's in the box, so that doesn't help much. I have a butcher block island that is my primary work space plus 6 or so JetMax cubes in white, an old kitchen table and a dresser from my son's old nursery that's yellow. Plus some random rubbermaid storage tower thingys. So, it's a hodgepodge.

I think I would go with the color I really wanted and chance having to return it to the store. For me, I would end up disappointed eventually that I spent money on furniture I was just "okay" with. Are you ordering through Walmart? If so, you could do the ship to store option. You would still have to bring it home (same as if you bought at the store). But if it is damaged, you could return it on the spot without ever hauling it home.

I voted white. Go with your gut and get what you really want. Remember also that all the people that got their stuff with no problem aren't posting reviews. Hopefully it will arrive in good shape.

I was also going to ask where you are getting it from? Could you special order it through the customer service department so that you can pick up and return at the store?

I voted dark because my current furniture is brown-black espresso. I've had white and as you mentioned it doesn't show the dust like the dark, but I prefer the contrast of my walls. What is your wall color?
BTW - I dislike the weathered "pallet" look.

I think white will look more classic in the years to come. I'm with those who said to order & risk it!

My walls are a neutral warm gray called Marble Tile. Still on the fence, but thanks for all the replies. The room is down in the basement, so it doesn't bother me as much that it's kind of a catchall in terms of furniture--not nearly as bad as when my space was upstairs in what was supposed to be the formal dining room. Then I did wish I could inherit a small fortune to spend on matching furniture from the Martha Stewart line or something.

I vote for white maybe because all my scrap room furniture is white. I have a lot of catchall furniture too. Painting it all the same color at least gives it continuity. Plus I just got shifted to the basement so I wanted to keep the room as light and bright as possible.

I actually chose weathered wood because I like a more folk art rustic look. It makes me feel more creative. But I am partial to the distressed look.

Get what you really want rather than settle if you don't have to. Definitely this. I chose white in the poll because you've already said that's what you want. If it was my house and my choice I wouldn't have the white because I don't like that style.
Take the risk and get the one you love.

I say get the colour that you really want. You will have to look at those pieces every time you go into your craft area and making that compromise could be something you always focus on in that space.
I have three pieces of furniture in my room and the majority of the colours are white. For me it is more of a personal preference thing seeing as we have mainly wood furniture throughout the house I wanted something that was completely different from the rest of our furniture and we have also moved quite a bit over the last few years and white seems to slot in so much easier than dark woods.

Yes, through WalMart. Will discuss with DH if he would rather have it shipped to the house or to the store. I might also take a field trip to see the other one in person. I don't dislike the weathered wood, it's just that it would be just one more finish in that room that's already a hodgepodge.
