So we've just arrived back in Scotland after a fortnight in Orlando. Our girls are 11 and 13 and helped pack, as did dh. Normally I end up doing it myself (I know, I know, I'm always of the mindset that I know where everything is if I pack!)
On the plane as our youngest was settling down to sleep, she asks for her stuffed dog 'purpy' (it's purple - the name isn't quite as random as you think!). Dh says it must be in the hold luggage but I start to get a bit concerned. Dd falls asleep thankfully. I check with dh again and he insists it is in a case because he packed it. Oldest dd says that's right because she checked the bedroom they were in. You can see where this is going, can't you?!
Home now, unpacked....purpy is enjoying an extended vacation! Lucky for him, not great news for us! Hoping that the people who go in to clean the villa will help us out now!

She hasn't managed to before now so I'm hoping it wasn't a one off because we were on the plane!

Have you called the place you were staying at and left Purpy at? Call sooner rather than later to ensure they don't just toss it.
ETA: Sorry, that sounds negative, and I didn't mean it to!
Also, if goodness forbid you need to replace Purpy, post a pic and the peas will help hunt down a Purpy look alike.

I hope that Purpy is found and returnable. I lost my bear when I was 9 at girl scout camp and I was devastated. My parents even drove up to the camp to look, totally out of their character, but he was gone:(. Gosh, still makes me sad some 40 years later. On the flip side of lost and found stories, my daughter left a very important to her, not so expensive, piece of jewelry on a nightstand and when I called the housekeeping was able to locate it and mailed it back to us pronto. My daughter is heading towards home today after a trip to Orlando and I was telling her over the phone all the places to check so she wouldn't forget anything. It happens.
Fingers crossed that Purpy is found.

We've spoken to the villa rental place and they're going to speak to the house keeping team and will get back to us on Monday or Tuesday. Going to be a long few days but I will cling onto the hope (That and the irritation that I go back to control freak packing!!) Thanks all - keep your fingers crossed!

No, just be the one who checks the rooms after everyone says they have packed. Train your children to open, look and SEE (I know hard to do) and let them work with you so they learn the best way to check everything has been packed.

It's always so hard when you pack up after a vacation. We are all trying to do things, and one puts something in one suitcase, then sometone takes it out and puts it somewhere else.
My daughter left her webkins in a hotel when she was 8, then never told us (she always looses things). Her dad packed it, then she went and got it out to put it with her stuff, and then forgot to do it. I hope you get your daughters stuffed animal back!

We pack everything in the car, then go back and each of us takes a turn in a room, then we switch. It's so easy to overlook things, so with all of us checking, we usually find something the rest of us miss! My husband is the best room checker! He always finds something our daughters and I completely missed. When my youngest was 5, she always said "men eyes are the best! Dad always finds my stuff!"

My son had left "Doggy" behind one time when we were traveling. Luckily housekeeping found him and we ended up paying for him to be overnight shipped home We did the same thing once. My daughter was on a trip with her grandma and when they got home to the airport, my dad noticed she wasn't carrying her beloved doll and asked where it was. I swear that my kid turned stark white and started to sway like she was going to pass out. We called the hotel right from the airport and arranged for it to be shipped overnight.
I hope Purpy finds his way home soon.

My kids are only 6 and 3. But I wonder if this might be the time to train a 10 year old not to "need" a stuffed animal?

Hopefully Purpy is enjoying his vacation. We lost Teddy one time on a trip. We left him on the bed and house keeping came in while we were out and about that day and they cleaned the room made the beds and Teddy was gone. Now Teddy belongs to Pearl out little white Chihuahua so it isn't quite the same and your daughter but still this little girl was so sad. She had Teddy from the day she came home with me @ 7 weeks old. We talked to the the lady at the front desk and she called house keeping and the laundry ladies and nobody seen Teddy. She took our information and said if they find him she would call. At that point we thought for sure Teddy was gone. Now Teddy was the only toy Pearl played with for 5 years. We couldn't get her to play with anything else as hard as we tried. Teddy was old, worn and torn, Had too many stitches and looked like garabage but Pearl wouldn't give him up nor would she play with anything else. We tried to find other teddies but still no luck in getting her to play with anything else. So We came home thinking that she would go without playing ever again. 10 days later I got a phone call it was the lady from the hotel that took our information and was looking for Teddy. She found him. said he is being fedexed to us and we should get him in a couple days. man We were to happy because that whole 10 days Pearl wouldn't play with anything else and these dam spoiled dogs have too many toys. Now Teddy is still worn and torn and looks like garbage but PEarl still loves him. Still won't play with anything else. still packs him around the house, Still leaves him in the middle of the floor. neither of the boys dare touch him. Pearl isn't mean if they do but there is like a nonspoken rule not to touch teddy.
SO I am very hopeful that Purpy will be home in no time.

pmk, if you want company to fly back and look for him, I'll be happy to oblige! This is the first year I haven't been to Florida since we started going in 2006, and I'm struggling.

We didn't go last year and I was amazed by how much I missed it. If I could jump on a plane to head back you'd be welcome to join me - I found it such a boost getting some sunshine and heat (I'm usually cold!)

My youngest DD, who is now 13, left her beloved stuffy "Rosie" on a vacation to the Grand Canyon with her dad about 4-5 years ago. It was tragic, and housekeeping claimed they could not find it. We found a look-a-like at Toys R Us, and although she had a tough time at first accepting the new "Rosie" she did eventually get used to it. Of course, even though Rosie is still around, she does not command nearly the same attention and mindfulness that she once did, but I assume that Rosie will continue to hold a place of endearment much like my 16 year old's "Doggie" that she has had since she was 2. Awww, when my DD was little Cow was her best friend. Cow got left at the card and party store one evening and I think I was more panicked than she was! Fortunately the ladies working there set him aside safely under the counter and he was there when I called the next day. After that I was a complete freak about knowing Cow was accounted for on each trip he made out of the house.
I hope Purpy makes it home safely!

I have found the spare one I bought when her obsession began many years but she went to bed huffing that "it's too fluffy" I think now it's a sentimental thing rather than an absolute need for comfort, but she's been a bit lip-trembly about it today (the travel exhaustion won't help!) If the original does managed to get back to us he's going to end up with an electronic tag!

This is why my 2 boys' BeeBees don't leave the house unless they're going on an overnight somewhere. The answer is 100%, unequivocally NO when they ask. It's just not worth the heart attack any of us would have if BeeBee were to be left behind somewhere.

When My son was young he had a teddy that he loved and still does! He always wanted to take it with him places. I feared he would be lost, and I told him that Teddy got car sick if he had to go out. My little guy totally believed me. I kept up my little lie for awhile and one day he said Mommy, I know that Teddy doesn't get car sick, you just didn't want me to lose him. He still has a place on his bed and he is 8. I hope your purpy gets home

I hope purpy gets found and sent home soon.
I can relate to the " do it yourself on behalf of everyone else" packing though. We hadn't been married very long and DH packed his own stuff, we got to the destination and he didn't have one pair of clean underpants to cover the two weeks we were going to be there......hence that it's me that now does the packing. Not only that I also now check all the doors to the house are locked because when we were off on another trip some years later, according to him, he had locked all the doors to the house.......no he hadn't... he had left the back door wide open. It was our neighbour that discovered it the next day when she was watering the plants in the back garden. Fortunately she had a key to lock it!

Why my youngest was born, some one gave us a baby blanket from Gymboree. That became his Blankie, he loved that blankie and it went every where with him. By the time we realized his attachment to the thing, it was too late to buy a second one-you know how gymboree changes their designs all the time.
This is a kid who was going back and forth to his dads as a little guy and that blankie was really, really important to him.
I remember actually calling Gymboree headquarters to see if there was anything we could do to get a second one because I knew that at some point, with all the going back and forth it was going to be lost. I was absolutely impressed with their customer service. They actually put me in touch with someone who works in a department that archives items to see if they had one in there. They didn't, but they did send me on that was incredibly similar. It was the same material, similar colors. So we made that one Blankie's best friend and he lived at Daddy's house and the boy was mostly okay with it.
The boy is 17 now, and Blankie lives in a chest in my room now.
I sure hope Purpy makes it home safe and sound, losing a lovie is awfully sad.
