how do you keep your books organized? I started using book bub a couple of months ago and my kindle has so many books now I can't keep them all straight. I don't know what I've read or haven't read and I don't even know what I have waiting for me to read on my account!
Is there a trick to this that I am not aware of?

I remove the book from my Kindle when I finish reading it. Lately I've been reading mostly library books, so that's easy - they take care of themselves!

I have about 1800 books stored at Amazon "in the cloud". I keep about 30-40 books on my Kindle which are my most recent purchases or "to be read" books. I do have a document on my computer which lists all books broken down into books read (with a rating, date read & description) and books still to be read (with a description). I really like have a ready description of my books without searching Anazon. I'll be watching this thread for other ideas.

I have a few books I keep on my kindle all the time because I like to reread them, but most of the time I read a book then remove it. I don't download it or buy it until I want to read it.

I use Calibre. It's after program that organizes your books and makes it easy to transfer on and off your device.

I keep a list on Excel of the books I've finished.
On my kindle, as soon as I've finished a book I remove it. So all books on the device are either new or started.

Can you explain how to do it please? Go to the Home screen and long press on the book, until a menu comes up. The last option is Remove from Device, or Delete this Book, or something like that. ETA: it only deletes from the device - not your Amazon library. So you can download it again if you want.

I was wondering the same thing because I use BookBub and Pixel of Ink and browse Amazon's inexpensive books so I have a ton of them on my Kindle. Sometimes some of the free ones are junk so I'd like to delete them immediately.

I like to keep all my books on my Kindle so they're available anytime (I only have a wifi Kindle). I created category folders and once a book is read it gets moved into the appropriate folder. Books that haven't been read yet are just in the main directory that they download into. Most of the books I read are part of a series so I have categories named after each series. I also have other categories with just descriptions like "mysteries" or "nonfiction animals". Works for me.

I sort books into collections based on type (fiction, nonfiction, business, sports, cookbooks); some of the serial books are sorted that way (Harry Potter, In Death series, etc.). I, too, keep the unread books on the Kindle and read books in the cloud. Books I re-read often (like Potter) also stay on the kindle.

Sometimes I put a book straight in the category folder before I've read it so it's easier to find. A biography, for example, I would probably put straight in its' category folder so it doesn't get lost in the general list. I probably have far too much in the general list but I download a lot of free books.

I think it depends on the model. I'm currently using a Kindle Fire. I don't think you can sort into collections. I typically download 1 or 2 books at a time and then remove them from the device. I keep track on goodreads the books that I've read.

On my Nook they were in most recently read order, with new, unread ones below the one being read. Then DH borrowed my Nook and hit a button that put them all in alpha order by title. Ratsafratz! Oh, well.

Press and long hold on the book, then choose "collections." You can create new collections from there.

Like you I'm a member of Book Bub and I was getting books that sounded interesting that I thought I'd like to read, but was having a hard time coming up with a way to organize them. I had so many on my device that it was confusing to me.
So I decided to make use of the "wish list" feature on Amazon.com. I've created several different wish lists: Books that sound interesting, Books I own that I haven't read, Books I've read in 2015, etc.
My library also has digital books available for loan. They have it set up so that I can create a wish list on their site, so I have an additional wish list there. The books on that list are not on my Amazon wish list.
When I'm ready for a new book to read I look through my wish list, either through the library or Amazon and choose a book. The books I own through Amazon are stored in "the cloud" and I download them onto my Kindle.
When I'm done reading a book I add it to my wish list of books that I've read and remove it from my Kindle.

Me too. And when I take them off, it seems the cloud brings them back. I got so many books once, I just deleted them all and started over. (They were all free.) I have stopped getting free books...they are not usually readable.
I do get books from the library, read them right away, before they disappear.

If you're not finished with a library book, turn your wi-fi off or go into airplane mode. It won't disappear unless you're connected. And I agree, good free books are few and far between.

I have a Nook and I TBH I have a lot of what I call crap fiction - because I read right before I go to sleep. I don't want something to think about and ponder just fluffy fiction to relax to AND I'm a re-reader. I try to keep it organized on the Nook by author and series. Sometimes other library categories, but I need a better e system. The problem with my series is there isn't always an easy way to keep them in order or see which one should be read next.
Maybe I will try to sync it on my laptop as that is just easier to use at times.
I really want to get into borrowing from the library... might check their stock. Thanks for the reminder.

Okay, I spent some time last night after I got in bed organizing my Kindle. It looks so nice now! All those lovely folders. Thanks for asking this question OP.

I am part of a FB group where they link to freebies daily. Some of them are very good but they had done the hard work for me and weeded out the rubbish ones. I like the free books as they could introduce me to an author that I would like to read more of, if you see what I mean.

I read mine in reverse order of when I downloaded them, meaning, I read the oldest book first. Once I've read it I delete it. Then again, I'm frugal, I never pay for my books, they're all free or Kindle Unlimited

With the Amazon Prime sale on Friday, I wonder if I should get a cheap Kindle to get the Kindle benefits. I really wish I had gotten a fire instead of my last Nook. Oh well, I really need to take some time get the best out of my Nook.

I use my smartphone most of the time with the kindle app, occasionally I will use my laptop or my tablet as well.

I have a Nook. I create folders by author, last name first. I also have a folder called AAA New Books. I place new books there, then move them to the appropriate folder after I read them. I also have a Miscellaneous folder and a ZZZ Bad Books folder. I keep those so I can double check to see if I did not like the author before I download a free book.
I also have a Childrens folder that the grandkids know to visit.
