With the Amazon Prime sale on Friday, I wonder if I should get a cheap Kindle to get the Kindle benefits. I really wish I had gotten a fire instead of my last Nook. Oh well, I really need to take some time get the best out of my Nook. Which benefits are you talking about? You don't really need a kindle. I use my smartphone most of the time with the kindle app, occasionally I will use my laptop or my tablet as well. I was under the impression that Kindle users got free books that just having access with apps doesn't give.

I am part of a FB group where they link to freebies daily. Some of them are very good but they had done the hard work for me and weeded out the rubbish ones. I like the free books as they could introduce me to an author that I would like to read more of, if you see what I mean. What's the name of that FB group? I'd like to join it. I don't know what's wrong with my FB tonight but it keeps booting me out. I'll pop back when I can get in as I can't recall the name off the top of my head. However . . . you may want to search for a group in the US as I have seen people say the links don't work if you are not in the UK.

With that, you can borrow one book per month for free, but it only downloads to a physical Kindle - not to any of the apps. That's the only 'bonus' I can think of off hand.

Amazon Prime members get 1 free book per month, but it is a limited selection of books that you can choose from.

Of course I can't remember what it was called and can't figure out how to return it or find other free books. I need to figure out how to organize my books I downloaded a lot of free ones over the years, bought a few and then there have been a ton of library books luckily those disappear pretty quickly.

The Harry Potter books could be borrowed on Prime - at least awhile ago. The HP bookstore finally figured out how to accept US credit cards, so I've since bought them for the kindle.

I told my dh about this thread and he suggested Calibre. He uses it to keep his books organized. You can also use plugins on it and the program will update your Goodreads account. He is going to get me set up on it in a bit. I will try to come back and fill you all in on it.

Do you have to use it on a laptop, or will it work as well on an IPad?

I am not sure about the i-pad. Go to the Calibre site and check out the instructional video.

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. The group is here www.facebook.com/eReader1.UK but as I thought, it is specifically for UK users. You could join, I imagine, and then go to Amazon USA and look up the same book to see if it's free for you. I have done that on various forums - when someone links to a US free book, I look on Amazon UK. Or maybe search Facebook for a similar group in your location? I would have expected there to be some.

I am now set up on Calibre! This is a really neat program. I think it will help me be more organized with my books. I have tons of books that I have not read but I had forgotten what they were about. Now I can just look at the book on Calibre and know.
I still need to learn all that Calibre can do.

I like Calibre. I use the tag function to keep things organized. I tag genre, read/not, and series. Between that and the author / title search it's pretty easy to find what I want.
