It really all depends on what is going on and what I have time for. Twice a year 3 friends and I go to a cabin and spend 5 days. Everyone has their own king bedroom and bath. We have been doing this for the last 10 or so years. This is my favorite place to scrap. No interuptions, a few adult beverages and relaxing. We know each other very well so you can stay up as late as you like, or go shop and come back. This is my dream....but alas no scrappy friends. I would even do this with scrappy strangers, I would foot the bill for the rental property (we have some wonderful places in our state), but i can't find anybody that wants to do something like this. I am about ready to just do this on my own. And for me it is all about the inspiration I receive from the beauty of the location that I am seeking. I have a wonderful craft room and I am fairly productive right here at home. But I am yearning to go to beautiful and tranquil location will just give me that extra creative boost. Me too, I do not know anyone who scraps. I have never been to a crop, I have always scrapped alone. Sometimes I drag my daughter in for company LOL!

I've only ever been to a few 5 hour and two 12 hour crops. I hate the packing and unpacking of supplies and not having my stuff with me. But now that we've moved I'd love to have the opportunity to meet local people with similar interests. After I meet those wonderful locals, I'll want my own crafty barn so they can come crop with me and I have all of my STUFFFFF! Not too much to ask, right?!

I prefer scrapping at a crop. I have 3 little kids at home, so I have very little uninterrupted time to scrap at home. I do a crop once or twice a year and it's awesome. I would love to go more like 4 or 5 times a year. It is kind of a pain in the butt to pack everything up, but it's worth it to have time to myself.

I used to attend a LOT of crops and even weekend scrap get aways. But now that I have my scrap room set up exactly how I want it, and I finally have a good printer to print my pictures as I scrap, I made the decision this year to just scrap at home. What gave me the final push was doing LOAD (layout a day) in February and seeing how many layouts I accomplished in one month. I have one charity crop that I attend every November and I will continue just with that one because it's for a friend's good cause.

I like both. My scrap room has so many tools and it is so convenient. However, I live in the most gorgeous state and we have retreat places for scrapbookers all over. I have been to 4 or 5 of them and they are all up in the mountains. If you need a break from scrapping you have instant entertainment. My favorites are near Estes Park, Colorado. You can have all sorts of giant wildlife in the front yard while sitting in a hot tub. We've also had a baby moose in Grand Lake. The nearest one to me is 90 minutes away.
We also have huge crops 2 hours away. They are 12 hours each. Add four hours of driving and it is a long day, but I get much more done than when I am at home because of the distractions.

Is it important to you that the others be scrappers? I had a "retreat" for a group of friends at my home last weekend (the best of both worlds!), and of the 5 of us, I was the only scrapper. The rest were quilting - they all used to scrap but just don't anymore. Of the several others in our group who weren't there, one scraps, one does digital/Shutterfly books, one crochets and does other crafts. I felt just as inspired and got the same "therapy value" from being with my friends, even though they weren't working on the same kind of projects. So, don't overlook friends with other hobbies - who knows, you may be able to "convert" them to your cause, too!

I'm too intimidated to go to a public crop and cannot imagine going on a retreat. I feel like I am way outside the demographic and style of most scrappers and I get embarrassed by what I am working on, because I don't have a ton of stuff... and I don't know anybody locally who scraps. I like the idea of doing a getaway of crafting in general but all of my friends who do are online, so logistics would be pretty rough for us. I have all of 2014 to get done and the idea of going away somewhere and working does sound appealing, but I don't know if I ever will get the courage.

boop I went to my first retreat alone. I'm not a really outgoing person with people I don't know and I was nervous beforehand. I had a great time. It was good to get away and have alone time and everyone was friendly. Give it a try if you don't like it, you don't have to ever do it again. You never know though, you might end up loving it.

boop- It's cool that you don't have a ton of stuff, because a crop is a great place to see (and probably try out) a bunch of your fellow scrappers' tools. I know if I were near a newbie (or anyone, really) at a crop and they expressed interest in borrowing or trying out any of my stuff, I would be more than happy to share. And probably just give away some of my stash because I have so much. Life's too short to get possessive about stuff!

I am lucky to have a small space at home where I can scrap. I do love going to crops though. I enjoy the company of others with the same interests as well as just the fun of getting away. I am saving up to do 3 weekend crops next year as we have no lss and I haven't found a monthly one yet in my area.
