We live in Central Oregon, where the third largest cycling stage race is held, now in it's 35th year, Cascade Classic. Two years ago we had a Cat 1 team stay with us, one was the son of a dear friend. Cat 1 is the level just before they go professional. This year DH saw an ad on the TV that they still needed housing so in the middle of last week we volunteered again. We took a whole team, and will end up with 8 riders and the director. They are the youngest of the 9 professional teams in the US. Really nice kids from all over, ages 18-23. My playroom will look like a bomb went off with clothing bedding and cords to electronics! LOL The director and the injured rider will stay in our motorhome. Two will be in DS #2 room, and the others in the playroom. FWIW the playroom is a nicely remodeled 2 car garage with it's own bathroom. They are dealing well with their 8 year old shadow (youngest DS), and enjoying the animals (2 GSDs, 1 cat with 4 kittens, and our assorted free ranging chickens, turkeys, and duck.) The first stage is tomorrow and it will be fun to go watch and cheer on our team! We will also go watch the Criterion which is held downtown. The other stages are a drive and you don't get to see much. It will be really hot, so they will need to be well-hydrated. I plan to do at least a load of towels a day. And after the fact it will be load of bedding, but it will be worth it.

That is so kind and generous of you and dh to open your home to complete strangers with such hospitality! Hope your guests are appreciative and do well with their races.

I am egging them on, b/c last time my friend's son WON the Cat 1 Criterion, so I told them one of them has to win at least one stage. The director liked that! BTW they just came from Wisconsin where it was hot and humid. But the dry high desert heat will really be a challenge for them.

First stage is tonight and is just a speed race prologue. It allows the riders to get placing numbers and put the yellow jersey on the fastest. The road races start Wednesday, with different stages through Sunday. This is our team, D3 Devo Airgas Cycling, go check out their FB page too! We will also have 2 birthdays while they are here. Good thing I can whip out a nice birthday card for both!

That is awesome! Fun story... My BFF hosted a little league team in her home for one of the qualifying tournaments for the little league World Series or something or other. This was an entire team of pre-teen boys. Fast forward to the year these boys graduated high school and one of them was drafted straight into the MLB. He is now a pitcher for the Cubs and still very close to my friend. When he was first drafted she traveled with him when his momma couldn't.
