I know that mini albums were all the rage for awhile, then it seemed (to me) that interest slacked off. I no longer saw mini album classes offered at the LSS for quite awhile before the LSS closed. However, the new paper arts store seems to offer mini album classes, and I saw Pinecone Press mini albums at the Scrapbook Expo. I bought 3 Pinecone Press mini album kits, and my friend bought two of the same ones that I bought. Afterward I wondered, "WHAT was I thinking?!?!?"
Seriously, I don't do mini albums.
I made one of the three mini albums last week and started the second one yesterday. They really are fun and cute, whether they are trendy again or not. Each album cost less than a class would cost.
So, are mini albums popular again? Or did they never stop being popular? Or is it just my perception that they are making a comeback?

I don't know, but I think mini albums are fun to make, but not that enjoyable to look at. I don't make them anymore either. Instead, I make a small book on shutterfly beause when I think about making one, it would need to be mailed. I consider the cost of postage and supplies and if they would really enjoy it that much.

I really don't do mini albums. About 2 or 3 times I have put a quick mini album together for someone with photos from a shared event, but that is because I know they are not into scrapping but can carry the album around with them to show people. Like a coworker and I went on a work trip to Hilton Head and I took pictures of her there and did a little album. Another time we went as a work group to Puerto Rico and I did 2 very small mini albums for people on the trip.
I personally do not like mini albums but it would probably be fun to place a bunch of them in a basket to pull out and look at.

I've never lost interest in minis. I still see a lot of inspiration on Pinterest. I just make them less often because I don't scrap as much as I used to. I actually do have a basket of them on my coffee table and we do look at them and reminisce.

I think mini albums are still pretty popular.. I've seen classes offered at places like Studio Calico recently.
I do love minis, but they are a lot of work (for me). I can't just go start to finish... I flip back and forth, adding things here and there, trying to make the whole album cohesive.

I hope they are still popular because I am still making and selling them. I think many people like the small size. it is easy to display or store. the front covers can be decorated much easier than the full 12x12 albums. I'm not a fan of plain covers so mini albums give me an excuse to doll up the fronts.

Oh, I have no idea.
I thought mini albums were just another size of album.
I used a 8x8", which I consider a mini album, for my December Daily last year. I thought it was fun to work in a smaller size than I usually do because it comes together very quickly and it is a fun size to look through without becoming overwhelmed.

I used to love doing mini albums but I kind of got burned out, plus they took up too much space. I don't think they're less popular; it's just that they were a staple of SB classes and unfortunately there are so few left. A resurgence of mini albums would be nice.

I've seen where some people are starting to make mini albums for their Project Life and do one album a month. Stephanie Bryan is doing a series like this for Studio Calico. The videos are on YouTube: Project Life Mini AlbumI think her albums are beautiful, but to me they're more artistic than actually recording what happened in her or her family's life. Lots of beautiful pictures but not enough emphasis on the story behind them for my taste.

I guess you could say I've made more mini albums than regular ones in recent years. I like the 8x8 format for December Daily and have completed two of those, and two 8x8 photo books from Shutterfly of DD's first six months. I also made a very cute 6x6 album for my mom of our South Pacific cruise vacation that my sister stole ( long story!!). I'm not a huge fan of mini books that don't live in a regular album (like chipboard covers and pages, with stuff glued directly to them, etc.) because I don't like pages without protectors or stuff on the covers that will get damaged or dirty over time with people handling them, but I do like the smaller format.

I think some people find it easier to get their cute size fix from pocket pages now... Or the Instagram 4x4 albums...
I like mini albums as long as they're securely bound... I don't like having a bunch of pages that hang off a ring, for example... Makes me worry about damage to them and they're harder to store neatly... I have a WRMK Cinch and another office brand binding machine so I'll use those, and I have a small metal truck that they get put into...
I like them because scrap booking feels never ending and sometimes I want to feel like I've finished something more than a layout...

I appreciate all of the replies.
I don't think of 8x8 albums hat are in a normal album as mini albums. I am referring to mini albums with chipboard covers, no page protectors, and are more for putting out on display. I know you can display your regular scrapbooks, but I don't. Yes, because there are no protectors, the pages can get ratty looking over time, but I don't have little kids anymore, the grandkids don't come to visit more than once a year (too far away), and I don't have a lot of the kind of company that would "threaten" my hard work and leave my mini albums dog eared and dirty.
They won't last forever. I think I like them because they are more fun than they are practical. I have been a historical/event scrapper all my life, and the mini albums are just fun to make. They are kind of home decor art in a way. I like the idea of putting them in a basket. I will have to do that.

I make loads of minis and I can't see that changing anytime soon, in fact I just loaded my latest on my blog. I do fancy doing a mini photo book though as there seem to be quite regular deals around and the square ones look really lovely. www.scrapthology.blogspot.com

Awwww thank you!! That is so kind of you to say. I tend to make my albums bulky. I like them to look like they are bursting with content. I've never been very satisfied with albums that lay flat or where the covers lay perfectly horizontal and the covers are blank or plain. I like pie shaped albums that display standing up too.

Mini albums are my one true love! I will never stop making them and actually enjoy making them way more than making a layout. Have you seen Stephanie Bryan's Project Life this year? She is making a different mini each month to house her PL. They are amazing!

I love to look at mini albums, but I don't like to make them. I prefer to have my work protected behind a sheet protector.

I don't know if they are in or out of fashion but I still like them. I recently did one and working on another now. So they have my vote too. So fun!

I used to love love love mini albums. I have made a ton and have a few kits to finish still... but I am not making them anymore. I found them hard to display and store, they would get so dusty! I enjoy the ones I have made but now I am doing layouts instead so that the kids can see the progression of their lives over the years easier.
