6 years old? That must have been a lemon! I've had really good luck with every car I've had, 1 drove a Ford Escort for 14 years and never had to do anything but gas, oil, and tires. Then we bought a Ford Taurus and same deal, just got rid of that car because it was getting ugly. I'm sure it's still on the road. Then we got a Dodge Durango and drove that until gas went through the roof, about 5 years. Since then I've had a VW Jetta and they tell me it will probably make it to 200,000 miles or more! "Maintenance" is spendy on VWs but it's kind of a proactive approach instead of reactive. Haven't done anything other than maintenance over above the standard gas / oil and tires.

Hondas and Toyotas last a long time. Our Honda Odyssey minivan is about 10 yrs old and still going strong, even with multiple road trips from CO to SC and back over the years. DDs both needed cars this last year and we got Toyotas (Camry and Corolla) for them.

I'm another Toyota fan. Started with a Tercel, then Previa and Sienna and now driving a Camry. Do you need an SUV? The Camry has good trunk space, but the rear seats don't fold down in mine so that is a limitation if you haul a lot of stuff.

Well, it depends on what you're looking for.
I've owned two mazdas. The first was 14 years old when I traded her in and she was still going strong, we had just had a baby and I wanted a bigger car. I test drove almost every SUV on the market... and ended up buying another Mazda. I have a CX-9 and it comes loaded. I feel like I have a luxury car, without the price! Drives like a dream, heated seats, leather, moonroof... My mom has a luxury brand and her car was probably $20,000 more. I had it for the week and honestly? I'm happy to have my car back!!!
There are quite a few peas with CX-9s as I recall, so hopefully you get some more reviews.

I love my Jeep Commander. I'm considering purchasing a Rubicon or Grand Cherokee, maybe both. Start a Jeep collection.

We have a Chevy Acadia, which we love! You have a GMC Acadia. Chevy makes the same version which is the Traverse. I'm looking at the new Explorer. Can't decide on a limited or loaded XLT.

My friend bought a brand new Traverse and it was in the shop something like 4 times in the first year. After about 18 mo and soooo much trouble she finally traded it in. It was the biggest piece of junk car for her.

Love love love my Honda Odyssey!
I think you are pretty safe with anything Honda or Toyota. If you want a full size SUV, Chevy Tahoe gets top marks from Consumer Reports, but you may not want another Chevy given your experience.

We had a Toyota Tundra, and we will never buy another Toyota. Their service was awful, and we had 3 major issues with it in the first 2-3 years.
We've also had 2 VW's and would never get one again due to the cost of maintenance and repairs.
I have a Mazda now, and would buy another in a heartbeat.
We've never had a Honda, but I have heard many great things about them.

Based on this picture taken last week, I am highly recommending Chevy Tahoe if you're looking for an SUV.
It's time for a new car for me, too, so I'll be watching this thread. I'm ready to downsize a bit and would like something with better gas mileage. I'm thinking about a GMC Terrain or a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I had a 2007 Murano, which I loved. Never a problem, just usual maintenance. It had just over 92,000 miles when I traded it in for the new 2015 Murano, which I love even more than the first one!

11 year old Forester and it's great. The back brakes need to be fixed, but otherwise it has been great. I will be watching this thread. We are talking about replacing it in the new year. Crossover or another SUV? Maybe a car instead? I don't know...

I've had my Honda Accord for 8 years, and it's been a great car. My fiance has a Toyota Tundra, and we both love that truck. They hold their value better than any other pick-up on the road right now.

I have the CX-5 version which is just a tad smaller as I did not need big but the bells and whistles it came with and for a very good price too! I have only had my 2013 since Sept 2012 but I have yet to have a single issue or problem and it drives so smoothly and very roomy even at the smaller than the CX-9 size.

I've been driving Suburban's since 97 and have loved them, never had anything major wrong with any of them. Have put a lot of mileage on them and really just traded for a newer version. I keep thinking I need something smaller, but really love them.
My dd just bought a new replacement Jeep for the other brand new one that was totaled. Jeep was totaled, she was uninjured so i'm a fan.
