What has earned the right to be on your desktop all the time? Things that you must have in arms reach.

I actually have a lot of things w/in arm's reach, lol. I have one of those wire shelves right in front of me and my caddy sits on top of it. What's in there is a long list - everything from mini alpha stamps to glue dots to my CM cutting system. Underneath is where I keep my iPod, tape runner & trimmers. I also have the Store-n-Spin w/in arm's reach and it's another thing that holds a ton of stuff: all writing utensils, rulers, staplers, misc. tools (tweezers, brad tool, Quik Stik, etc.), Crop-A-Dile, erasers, scissors . . . The photos I am working on are always nearby. I have a small set of plastic drawers that sits on my workspace and all my punches are in there. And of course my Lindt peanut butter truffles simply have to be close by at all times. I'm lazy. I try not to get up much once I'm going!

Scissors, ruler, adhesive runners, adhesive squares, paper trimmer, self healing mat...
I am getting ready to move back into my scrap area and I'd like to reduce the amount of "stuff" sitting out, so this is a good topic for me.

Cutting mat, trimmer, tote of tools, scissors, tape, etc. My desk has a plexiglass top that covers dozens of pictures that make me smile.

I keep my desktop work area clear, since my entire scrap space is either within arm's reach or one/two steps away...maybe I need a bigger room!

LOL practically all of my supplies. Well ok maybe not all but yikes I love everything within arms reach..what is physically on my desktop, my trimmer that takes up the entire right side of my desk (it's a big timmer) and to the side of that are most of my dies, glue gun, crop a dile, basket with liquid glues, my little Xyron X and on the wall behind that is a shelf that holds the pens, scissors, paint brushes, bone folder, etc.
I also have 4 baskets in front of me against the wall under a shelf that contains, chipboard letters and what not, plus odds and ends..i.e ephemera, enamel dots. On the shelf that sits on the desk in front of me and over the baskets are ink pads, stickles, another basket with all my adhesives, stick pins, some stamps(little like 1x1) all my Distressed Ink pads, mists and glitter. And there are other small items like 3 tins of eyelets and some other junk.
Then as a side note up above where I sit against that same wall in front of me are my adjustable shelves with all my cardstock and pp and to the right on the wall above where I keep the pens and what not are more shelves with some more of my dies, paints, embossing folders, jewelry tools, embossing pastes and some other stuff.

I don't have a permanent desk but I have a cabinet/hutch thing by a kids picnic table I use. There's a lot within reach because my living room is small. I probably use ink pads, scissors, ATG gun, Xyron X, paper trimmer, and pens the most. My die cut machines are about the only things that take longer to use because I have to set them up.

Permanent items on my project table top are a lamp and a little twirly metal organizer with 4 sections - cutting, writing, adhesive, and misc items. If it doesn't fit in there, it has to go live somewhere else. Right now there are a lot of freeloaders (paper packs, wood veneer, washi, embellishments) that need to go back home.

You made me laugh so hard. I have one of those on my desk too and she earned the right to be up there. I have three lamps on my desk. My electric pencil sharpener, small fan, candle warmer, coaster, post-it note holder, writing pens, a small box with my adhesive eraser, burnisher & scissor sharpener. I also have my trimmer & cutting mat on my desk. All my tools are next to my desk on a big rolling cart.

Since I prefer an uncluttered work surface, only an oversized self-healing mat, paper trimmer, & PBK Art/Crafts Lazy Susan filled with frequently-used tools (e.g. scissors, pens, clear t-square ruler, adhesives) sits on my project table.

I have a big desk and right now there's a lot of junk on there that shouldn't be. But the things I need to have on there are:
my cutter two laptops (one is pretty much only for the cutter, the other one is for everything else) my old desktop computer that I still use pretty regularly my folding pen organizer thing, a catch all organizer that holds some note pads, a Priority Mail postage chart, some scissors and some other stuff a box of assorted postage stamps a little snowman bowl that has a bunch of random junk in it a pile of packs of cardstock for whatever project I'm currently working on (which lately is nothing so why is there a 2' high pile of paper there?) a different small scissors a black fine point pen and a brown fine point pen
Everything else that I need close by I have either under my desk, on wall shelves over my desk or on some Martha Stewart wall organizer things that are attached to the wall (magnet board, magnetic calendar, cork board and slat wall type stuff).

Once I get done organizing my craft room there will only be my laptop, lamp a coaster for my water botle on my desk. My shelves are right behind my desk so all I have to do is spin my chair around and most everything is at arms reach.

On my desktop (actually an old kitchen island) are my craft mat and my trimmer and usually a pack of baby wipes for cleaning stamps, etc. In a drawer of that island are adhesive, scissors, rulers and pens. In another drawer is a pile of pictures I want to scrap. The third drawer is a trash drawer. It's so convenient to be able to just sweep all my little scrap bits into that drawer and empty it when it gets full.
My Jetmax cubes and a Rubbermaid 7 drawer tower are on the wall directly behind me so I can just turn around and grab anything else I need.

I'm so glad you asked this question because I've never thought of the way that I organize my space like this before!
It's ridiculous, because do you know what's right in front of me as I scrap? A jar full of those decorated edge scissors that were all the rage about 15 years ago. Do you know how often I use them? Maybe once a year! If that! So why are they front and center? Probably because they "fit" there. I will move them tomorrow!
Also in front of me is a mug filled with old pens and pencils. Half of them probably don't even work anymore. I need maybe one pen and one pencil in my scrap space. So again... why is this mug taking up prime real estate on my desk?!?!?
My space is actually very clutter-free, so it won't take me long tomorrow to re-evaluate where I'm keeping my stuff. Thanks for the paradigm shift!

I keep my craft mat and my magnetic mat out and then whatever I'm working on. But my most used stuff is within easy reach.

Like others - too much! But really I like to have my trimmer, ruler, scissors, tweezers, adhesives and glue, powder (to take "stickiness" off of stickers), hole punch, black pen, gray pen, black ink pad, and tiny attacher. I think those are the main ones but I usually have more than that...
