That is ridiculous!
I actually had ordered the Explore through Amazon this morning. Then I started reading the relatively small percentage of reviews from the unhappy customers, which I should have done before ordering. The number of positive reviews were so high that I just figured the unhappy ones were less computer savvy, so I had gone ahead and ordered it. Then I read several negative views and decided there was more of a problem than computer illiterate issues. Some had to do with incompatibility such as you posted above. Others complained about how slow the software was. Some said they couldn't import and cut their own designs or SVG files they had downloaded. Customers complained of being on hold for 45 minutes or longer waiting to talk to customer service, and then realize that the customer service agent(s) weren't well trained enough to give them the help they needed.
I canceled the order. I think I will wait awhile and see if they work out their issues first. I thought Provo Craft had turned around. Now I am not so sure. It is absolutely inexcusable to do an update that makes the Explore incompatible with a computer that could use the machine prior to the update.

Completely ridiculous and just reinforces my previous (bad) experiences with Provocraft over various iterations of software and machines, the Sure Cuts A Lot lawsuit and other things.
I'd already pretty much decided not to replace my cricut with the explore because of needing to be online and the subscription model but this has definitely made me decide against it. No way am I going to spend thousands on a new MacBook every time they require an update.
When my cricut finally dies I'll be replacing it with a cameo.

As a Mac user, it makes me happy I ditched Provo Craft a long time ago! I still have my Expression and carts, but i just use them without hooking up to my laptop. I refuse to download their software or update my machine because of problems like this. I also haven't bought a new cartridge in years.
I do have a Cameo, which I use a lot more and prefer the way it cuts. I have been extremely pleased with Silhouette's customer service when I've needed it. Have never had a single issue being a Mac user with the Silhouette,

I agree with Nylene. Typical Provocraft operations. I have been tempted by the Explore many times, but now I'm hoping the Curio is a winner for cutting thicker materials.....
