I have a huge amount of VHS tapes of the family and then I have the smaller hi8 tapes. This week I sent 10 of my small tapes off to be transfered to DVD. The guy I sent them to only charges $10 per tape for 2 DVDs. I can't wait to receive them.
But even at such an inexpensive price, I would still have to spend probably 4 or 5 hundred to get all my tapes onto DVD. I keep thinking DVDs will soon become obsolete too.
So what have you done with your old videos? Did you have them transfered to DVD? Do you still watch them? If you had them transfered did you send them out or do it yourself? Did you use a company like Legacy Box?
I was so happy to find this guy in Philadelphia but I sent him $100 to get 10 tapes done (a fantastic deal) but up until this point I have owned 3 different DVD recorders and none of them were satisfactory.

I have sooooo many of when the kids were little. I'm told you can do this yourself but just have to buy some sort of adapter from the VHS to the computer.

My mother in law gave us a dvd recorder/vhs player one year and we transfer the vhs tapes ourselves. But we do have the small tapes that we don't have the vhs adapter tape to do them ourselves. I might have to send them in.
Daughter wanted to transfer a vhs tape to dvd for her dad but we had just moved and the dvd recorder/vhs player was not hooked up so she took the tape to Walmart and they said it would be $29.99 she said she would wait until she got back and send it to him.

Yes, I do and I've been thinking about transferring them to DVD, but didn't know how. Thanx for the link, k8smom! I've owned 3 (count 'em, 3) VHS/DVD machines and every single one of them has broken. I have given up w/that idea. But putting them on the computer is a great idea. I'm going to do this for movies I've taped off TV 100 years ago. While you can take your home movies to Costco, etc., they won't transfer any movies/TV shows because of those lovely laws. That little cable may be the answer to my prayers!

I love this!! I wonder if my computer could absorb all that footage, but if I can save it to an external or DVD drive that would be good.
