My husband went through that, too. Be prepared to give your DH a little emotional pampering time ... no matter how well you take it, it's still a blow to the ego and there's an aftereffect when you start interviewing for new jobs. My husband pulled back on being aggressive with his search because his old boss's voice kept whispering "you suck." I had to give DH pep talks to convince him to apply for positions that "seem like they won't want my skills."
He's now comfortable and happy in one of those positions he thought was "above" him.
I hope this chapter of your life passes quickly.

I'm so sorry, we've been through something very similar (more than once). There's really no such thing as company loyalty anymore, sad but true. As for the non-compete, I learned this from an attorney I work for, many times they're not worth the paper they're written on

So sorry for you & your husband. This happened to my husband, after 24 years with his company. New little twat of a boss came in, didn't like my husband, had him terminated. We had money to get us through, but emotionally it took a huge toll on my husband. I don't want to go into details, but it was a very dark time in our lives. After he received help, he got back on his feet, found a career he has always wanted to do & is doing very well at it. Things are so much better now, his health has improved ten fold.
Best of luck to both of you.

That is sad. Sorry to hear that he lost his job. Hope he finds something else soon and hope it's a way better fit for him! When one door closes, right??

Thanks again everyone…he is doing really well today. Has already started on projects around the house.
In Georgia they are suppose to give you a separation form when they fire you. He called HR and asked for that, HR asked if he was going to sign the legal document first. He is calling an attorney early next week to see what his options are as he has 21 days to sign it. It just seams to me that they don't want to play their hand on what is written in the separation form if he plans to take it to court. They will never let it go there because they don't want the press, we know that so we may get more then the 18 weeks out of it. My point is if the attorney will cost us the difference between the 18 weeks and what he ends up getting it just seams pointless and better to just be done with all of it.
Again Ladies, it is nice to find this message board. I have missed you all.

I'm sorry your husband has such a jerk for a boss. This may turn out to be an opportunity in disguise, so try not to get too down. Take a peek at Ashley's thread about her job search -- you never know what's going to turn up. I don't know anything about unemployment law. I know that our lawyer in Massachusetts, which is an at-will state, told us that Mass. non-competition contracts are unenforceable if they prevent you from pursuing your career. Something to ask your lawyer. It's great to have you back!!! I'm so glad that you found us. It's funny -- there has been a steady stream of old peas showing up the past month or so. Welcome
