I know there is a weekly reading thread and I will check there in a bit. I usually read a ton during the summer. This summer has been different. I can't seem to get into anything lately. I am starting to worry that something is wrong with me.
I generally do not like things written in first person. First person really throws me off for some reason. Several of the books I am trying to read now are first person and I can only stand them for a few minutes at a time. I need something that will suck me in and cause me to lose myself. I am currently reading The Martian and Virals. Both are first person and while good, just are not holding my attention the way I am craving.
Things I have liked in the past (I am all over the place, so bear with me.) Harry Potter series Blackdagger Brotherhood series. Lianne Moriarty books Romance by Julia Quinn, Mary Balogh Nalini Singh books Lynsay Sands books George RR Martin books Robin Hobbs books The Help
My summer is over in 3 weeks and I neeeeeeeed something wonderful to read. Thanks for any suggestion.

I just finished "The Queen of the Tearling". It is described in a review as "The Hunger Game of Thrones". Kind of YA but with some adult language and themes. I liked it a lot, and the sequel just came out too.

My suggestion would be Bird Box by Josh Malerman ... it is a bit creepy but not that bad and the story definitely sucks you in ... It's one of the best books I've read this year

The Martian by Andy Weir. It's great! It's about a guy who gets accidentally left on Mars and he has to figure out how to stay alive long enough for NASA to get to him. I normally don't like science fiction, but this was heavy on the science, and was extremely plausible. The science is broken down and very easy to understand. Excellent book, very fast read. They've adapted the book into a movie with Matt Damon and it comes out this fall. I cannot wait to see it!

How about Doc by Mary Doria Russell, a biography about Doc Holliday. I also loved 11/22/63 by Stephen King.

I heard The Martian was good, and got it to take on our vacation for me and the 17 yr. old to read. I also love all of Elin Hildebrands books! Girl Underwater was recommended here and very good! If you go to www.barnesandnoble.com you can search a book you like and it gives recommendations based on that book (what others who bought that book also bought). I love to search titles from the reading thread on barnes and noble. Sometimes people give away a lot about the book in the thread, and if I hadn't read it, it gives it away for me. So I look up titles on Barnes and Noble instead and get a summary of the book. I have gotten great recommendations from the peas!

Most Peas read this a long time ago, but I just finished the second book in the Outlander series. I didn't think I would like it, but got totally sucked into it. I also just finished watching the first season of the TV series, and thought it was really good too.

Best fiction books I have read this year:
The Nightingale - Sigh. This book. Wow. Wow. Wow. Simply amazing The Girl on the Train - A mystery, it's gotten mixed reviews but I really liked it. Sarah's Key - Oh. So. Wonderful
This little gem was a surprising find and just lovely - The Story Hour by Thrity Umrigar
And tossing in a couple from last year:
The Book Thief - So much more than YA. Watch the movie after you read the book. All the Light We Cannot See - Simply beautiful; my favorite book last year The Invention of Wings - If you liked The Help, you will LOVE this one! We Are Called to Rise - This just grabbed me and drew me in.
Happy reading!

Thank you all for great suggestions! I have several books now on hold to download on my Kindle when they become available.
I decided to read The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August.[/b][/b] It is in 1st person, but I am finding it interesting.

DS read the Harry August book and it's his summer pick for me. I'm saving it for when we go on vacation. (We all pick a book we think another family member would like. Not just one we liked, but one we think another would like.) I have the new Harper Lee book to read as well.
I really, really liked The Light Between Oceans. And The Girl on the Train. I read Sophie's Choice a few months ago. It was really interesting and now I want to rewatch the movie. I saw it about 20 years ago and I remembered nothing about her current life, just the flashbacks.
