I love sharks but as many encounters as I've had (hundreds, some very close), it still scares me to see ones that are big enough to make a two bite meal of me. You would never catch me on a surfboard in an area where great whites are known to frequent.

That would scare me out of the ocean for good! I'm glad he's okay.

"oh, holy shit! Excuse me." I kept thinking that I would have said much worse than this if I were commentating.

My heart is beating out of my chest! Holy smokes! When that wave came up and obscured the surfer from vision for a few seconds.... I was imagining the worst.

You guys are seeing a seven minute video? When I click the clock I am only finding a 30 second one...

OMG! My kids can not wait to get back home to the beach but after hearing all these reports from all over I think their teenaged selves are getting a blow up kiddie pool!!

Absolutely terrifying, isn't it?!?! I posted it to my FB feed this morning, and by this afternoon my FB feed is full of memes about it. I'm not sure whether to or . Mick looked to be totally in shock afterwards. And how about his mate Julian Wilson who went to save him, he was in tears when he was interviewed after it.

Wasn't that horrific to watch? When he went under you thought for sure he was a gonner, then when he got to shore and had all of his arms and legs I was amazed!

I just saw an interview with his mother on the news. She was watching it live and said she went up to the television and just wanted to pull him out! I can't even imagine watching my son in that situation live on tv, particularly when for a few seconds he was hidden by a wave. Longest seconds of your life I reckon.

I'm definitely not going to swim anywhere else than in the river! With three hydro electric powerplants between us and the sea, I think I'm safe here. Or perhaps I should buy a kiddie pool....

Mick looked to be totally in shock afterwards. And how about his mate Julian Wilson who went to save him, he was in tears when he was interviewed after it. I saw additional coverage of this on the evening news last night and there was new stuff in there that wasn't in my original 7 minute clip. (that has been edited in Brisbane and is no longer a 7 minute clip in my link on page 1)
Julian Wilson in tears was moving...but the thing I pointed out to my kids who were watching with me "this guy on his surfboard paddled TOWARDS a person knocked off his surfboard by a large shark". Julian Wilson's bravery was incredible and it shows what kind of man he is. If I was a surfing fan/follower of the sport, I think Julian would be my new favorite.

HOLY CRAP! Terrified me watching it, let alone being in the water.
