WOW! Scientists say there is a fool proof way to know if sharks are in the water. Step 1. Dip hand in water Step 2. Lick arm. Step 3. If you taste salt, there are sharks in the water.
Scary. I'll stick with my Great Lakes.

"oh, holy shit! Excuse me." But what about the announcer that says "you can see a little splash".
I'm like "uhhhhhhhh...you know that little splash has fins and teeth, right?"

This just showed up on my twitter feed...I watched your longer video and they said that they think that there were two sharks?? Yikes. I am not such a fan of the sharks. In college, almost everyone I knew surfed-and pretty much all of them had shark stories. Scary, but they all back on their boards and surfed again. Both of my boys dive and they both tell stories of run-ins with sharks. I can hardly listen without getting all hot and sweaty and freaked out.

"Holy shit!" is right! Wow... That guy is SO lucky to be alive. And yeah, I understand that the water safety boat is there for a reason, but there is no way they would have gotten to him in time had that shark decided to make a meal out of him.
That was terrifying to watch. I don't know how surfers get back in the water after experiencing something like that.

I'll stick with my Great Lakes. Sorry to break it to you, but bull sharks are totally cool with fresh water. And they are cranky and aggressive.

Mick is one of my favorite surfers. I'm SO glad he is ok. I could just see the disbelief on his face as he was on the sled. Holy Shit is right!!
How devastating would it have been if he'd been bitten?!? First shark attack caught live on video. He's amazingly lucky.
If his wetsuit wasn't peed in already, it certainly is now!!!!

That was so frightening to watch. It seemed like a much larger shark than those who bit swimmers along North Carolina.

I grew up swimming at Jeffreys Bay and I never understood one thing. The people in the know say the beach is protected by shark nets but I don't understand how they work. It seems to me that once the sharks get through the nets and obviously they do, they can't get out and then they get hungry and then...
That was really scary!!

That was so frightening to watch. It seemed like a much larger shark than those who bit swimmers along North Carolina. Jeffreys Bay, or J-Bay as its known in the surfing world, is on the coast of South Africa and a known home for large 10-12ft+ great whites. That shark would have flossed his teeth with the sharks off of NC. Mick is EXTREMELY lucky and you can tell he knows it.

Mahahahaha, "Flossed his teeth...", yeah, that's about what it looked like they would be capable of. Really much more frightening.

Apparently there were two sharks!!!
I watched an interview taken after he got back to shore and you could tell that what happened was starting to hit him and he was on the verge of freaking out. He kept saying over and over again, "I'm tripping out" lol. Sounding like the stereotypical stoner surfer lol.
He's one of the most talented surfers, I'm so glad he's ok. It would be an incredible shame if this traumatized him to the point of quitting surfing.
