I'm in such a summer reading mood! My all-time favorite summer book is Summer Sisters by Judy Blume. I also really like Elin Hildebrand books - my favorites are the Blue Bistro and Love Season.
What are your favorite summer-time books?

I have read the Judy Blume book, "In the Unlikely Event" and found it interesting and a good read.

I love light mindless books in the summer. Love Elin Hildebrand too.
Right now I am addicted to a series on my Kindle. The first book was free... Country Heaven by Ava Miles.

Well, my all time favorite book in the whole world is Thunder Hill by Elizabeth Nicholds. But this summer I'm having lots of fun with the Harper Lee thing. I've read To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman and am now on Mockingbird by Charles Shields. The Mockingbird Next Door by Marja Mills is waiting for me.
After 4 years in the racist south in the 1950's I never could have stomached TKAM. Now I can read it objectively. Reading the original draft, what is now GSAW, shows what great changes occurred between the beginning and the final book. Considering the length of time it was re-written over and over with every sentence scrutinized and commented on by various people I can easily understand why she never published another book.

I just finished Summer Rental by Mary Kay Andrews....light, fun, and a good easy summer read. I'm reading All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner right now, and I love it, but it's more serious. Up next is the new Judy Blume and 2 more by Mary Kay Andrews. Now, I just need more time to read

The Harry Potter series is my summertime reading favorite. I guess it's because the new books always came out in the summertime, so I have it hardwired into my brain that when the weather gets hot, it's time to re-read Harry. They really are perfect summer reads, though--they just transport me away, like when I was a kid.

I don't read a particular type of book depending on the season. The only exception would be reading The Christmas Carol at Christmastime. Anne Rivers Siddon seems like an author that would be good for summer reading.

I am not really sure what makes a book a summer read.
Summer House with a Swimming Pool by H. Koch happens during the summer but is not really light reading. I loved it, though, and gave it 5/5 stars.
I think Lianne Moriaty's books are nice reads as well.

Beach Town by Mary Kay Andrews is a great summer, "beach" read. As mentioned above, Elin Hilderbrand and Lianne Moriarty are also fun summer book authors.

For those who have never heard of a "summer" or "beach" book, they are books that are light subject matter and quick to read. The kind of book that if you are distracted while reading, it doesn't really matter.

Janet Evanovich's Wicked series. The third book just came out. Light, cute, supernatural, and funny.
Steve Alten's Meg series. Megaladon shark rises from Mariana Trench wreaks havoc. 4 books in the series so far. They get a little far fetched, but theyre supposed to be right.

I love books by Dorothea Benton Frank. They take place in SC and are fun reads! Just finished Isle of Palms and loved the characters!

I love all the Hildebrand books. I read one at the beach each summer! I loved Summer Rental - Mary Kay Andrews and also, Dorothea Benton Frank has books that take place at the beach. I love reading a "beach" book at the beach (the characters at the beach too).
I am gathering up books to take to the beach, so love this thread!
Like the pea above said, Laine Moriarty books are great! (The Perfect Husband, What Alice Forgot)
Where'd You Go Bernadette
Last summer I read "I'd Know You Anywhere" - Lippman and "Digging to China" - Anne Tyler at the beach and really liked them.
I am picky at the beach, I want to read a really good book there. An okay book I am happy to read at home.

I seem to remember crying at the end but that was half a century ago. I just remember always loving that book and read it several times back then. Young love.

Serious question - what is a "summertime book"? Are we talking about a light read, or a book set in summertime, or something else entirely? I'm not sure this qualifies, but the best book I've read recently was The Martian by Andy Weir - Great story and a truly great audio book as well. I recommend it to everyone

I love books by Dorothea Benton Frank. They take place in SC and are fun reads! Just finished Isle of Palms and loved the characters! Love these too! Living here, it's fun to see the real places she includes in her books. My husband used to work with her nephew and he told us a lot of the stories were based on real people in her life. My favorites were Sullivan's Island and Shem Creek.
