Can I be controversial? (if not...stop reading now). I know AF is the owner of a huge multi million dollar company and I know SC has made a ton of mistakes and I know they've treated people (me included) like crap and unwanted and I know most (if not all of you) disagree but I still feel sorry for her. I mean she is a person...and she did start SC and I'm sure it does mean a lot to her. I know she hasn't exactly done a lot to warrant ya'lls favour or mine for that fact but I sitll think it's sad. And even if she is a millionaire she does have feelings and I'm sure all this hate mail, name calling, crap dumping can't feel good. So whether it's deserved or not (which most of it might be or is) I don't think I'll ever be the kind of person who would wish bad on someone. Rather I wish she would have a big wake up call, a big slap in the face to what's going on and that she would turn from her current path. Note: hope it's okay for me to say that and disagree ... but I wanted to throw my two cents in. I feel similarly about it. I think there is a lot happening behind the scenes that we don't know about. My personal speculation is that SC is having cash flow problems. I don't know that for sure, of course. But it is often an explanation for what seem like ridiculous decisions made for the sake of profit. It's also often a result of rapid growth. Tossing around phrases like "multimillion dollar company" doesn't always mean anything about how much profit is actually being pulled in. This company makes a seriously damaging amount of shipping errors. Not to mention other problems. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the changes, like the new terms, are to get a handle on the finances of the company. How true! My DH is 1/2 owner of a company. We always chuckle that on paper we're rich. Unfortunately, that's not the reality ( however I do keep dreaming  ). None of us really knows what's happening on the inside. |

Has anyone noticed on the PL/Documentor change thread over at SC that bunches of people have asked if the kit is a name change only? And asked if the contents will not be changing? AND NO ONE FROM SC HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THOSE QUESTIONS/COMMENTS?
Do not, for one hot second, assume these kits are going to stay the same, just because November's is the same format and maybe the next few are after that. They had those kits in the works long before their collaboration with Becky Higgins ended. SC not answering the question is VERY telling. They're trying not to rock the boat as they know memberships are fragile right now. But once those people are locked in with their ridiculous cancellation fees hanging over their heads, the changes will be coming. Maybe some will be positive (square corners), but I think more are likely to be disappointing.
I also think it's crappy that people have until the 23rd to cancel without penalty, but Dec. kit reveal is posted the 22, according to April's comment on the thread. So you're getting just a few hours to open a convo and cancel if you don't like it? And we all know how long those take. I think this is shady! They're banking on people forgetting, especially those who don't check the MB.
Buyer beware.

I actually think that Samantha said that the kit contents won't change ( in reference to the Nov kits) but nothing has been elaborated on for after the 2015 kits. They did say they will be sending out another survey about them. Oh goody another survey!

I agree about more changes coming to the new Documenter kit. The PL kit was the most consistent of all the kits in terms of contents and value. So when the other kits began to change, PL stayed the same because of the agreement with BH it seems. Now they are free and clear of her requirements, and will probably wait until people are locked in under the new policies to make the changes.
When I was considering keeping one sub next year, PL was the one I would have kept, if any. This new information has sealed the deal for me canceling it all in Dec. or now maybe even Nov. I would not trust this kit to stay the same just because it is the same for Nov. SC's pattern says otherwise.

I doubt this changed happened super fast on the SC/BH side. They knew when the end of the contract was and would have started that negotiation months ago. When they were planning the kits for this month, if that partnership was in place BH would have been a part of that process. If the kits are planned 6 months in advance, this was known then. It would make sense to make the last two kits similar to finish the year out and then apply any changes to the new year, when people start their PL albums and the new commitments kick in. I wouldn't be surprised if the change in partnership spurred some of the changes in their entire structure going forward.
I don't think having a kit for PL not tied to BH is a big deal in the design sense. I think the SC style will not really change. My concern is not having the outside check for value. Until SC says what the kit "minimums" will be, I won't subscribe. Tell me how many cards/papers/etc I will be getting at the minimum and then I can make a mutual decision to commit to that. Right now, I could commit to a year and they could send me four cards, one sticker sheet and a paperclip. They don't seem to understand since they have had so many changes that mostly are perceived as a positive for them and not the customer that they need to put it out there for customers to feel comfortable committing to their termination fees. I know other kit companies don't really do that either, but if you look back at some of the pictures over months of those kit companies, the value doesn't seem to consistently be going down or they don't require such ridiculous cancelation fees so if you do become disappointed you can move on.

I think the timing of the announcement is the biggest indication that this is a recent development. The kit was announced in November three years ago, with the first kit shipped in January 2013. And while I do see pros for SC in not renewing the contract, I see many more cons. They have known for months that the contract deadline is looming so this "surprise" announcement is suspect, in my opinion, and leads me to believe that this was not by choice - unless, of course, it is no longer financially feasible for them to continue with the partnership. In which case, the hole in the ship is getting bigger by the minute. I couldn't agree more! There is simply NO way that AF would end a contract with BH...this is a HUGE deal, HUGE loss for them. As per April's MO, she can manipulate the words to try to make it sound like a positive thing - BUT IT IS NOT - AND APRIL KNOWS IT! Not that she will ever, ever acknowledge that. @devildog yes, I was banned for a good couple of weeks before I was admitted to the hospital. It was a nice gesture. For sure. It's just puzzling with the SC one is all. Please excuse me for being cynical - but I believe anything benevolent SC does is never without a motive to benefit themselves. I'm referring to AF; there have been some very kind, compassionate, good employees there over the years. I agree with you, abr79 - it is very puzzling and really almost insulting. |

BH has posted something to her blog and social media. Same message. But the wording is interesting the more I think about it...
"Allow both of our brands increased flexibility to grow in numerous ways..." Wonder what is coming down the pike for BH (not even going to speculate about SC because trying to figure them out makes my brain hurt!)

You'd think they'd figure out that spending a bit more on ink and paper (to print out packing slips for packages) would save a bunch of money by eliminating their costly shipping mistakes! |

Opened my card tonight. Not sure why I was expecting a homemade card...silly me. It was a Hallmark card, general "get well soon" with just the signatures of of the CS team. And AF. No inscription or anything. I also received a card from Ali - just a post card size, but it was handwritten by Ali herself with an encouraging statement. I've said it before but Ali is an absolute class act. Oh, and @northrigg? I sent you an email but I was humbled by your generous package. More than just the RAK of flair I was expecting. You, my dear, are an absolute sweetheart. You are welcome! Glad to have you back on the boards. Actually I totally forgot about the flair rak....I will have to do that here!!!! |

I can appreciate the consistency you get in your albums by using a core kit and I love so many of the designs of those kits, but I have a really short attention span and get bored seeing and using the same thing over and over.

If they knew that the November kit would be the 'Documenter' kit and not PL, why didn't they announce this when they release the preview video? It's labeled there as PL. It's still labeled PL on the kit preview page, too (although the drop down menu under 'Subscribe' has been updated). The timing here makes no sense.
I'd be surprised if BH had her own kit. Who would do the packaging? It doesn't look like their office facilities are really set up for that type of operation. Her motto is always to keep it simple. Remember who she resisted for so long to provide any type of embellishment since the whole idea behind PL is the simplicity of it? I know they have more embellishment items now (still not tons, though). I wouldn't be surprised to see her team with another company, though. Why not, right?

I bet we will see a bigger partnership with Stampin Up. They seem to have EXCELLENT quality control and distribution via their warehouse. It's a great fit for both brands. It diversifies Stampin Up a bit, but also gives Becky's brand a chance to do things she isn't as interested in doing herself. So I wouldn't be surprised if we see a monthly PL kit from Becky, through Stampin Up. They already do their Paper Pumpkin monthly kit, so it's not a format SU is unfamiliar doing. I see it including an exclusive stamp set! If April was smart, there would have been a "non-compete" portion to their contact, making it so PL couldn't do a monthly kit for XYZ years. Although Becky is smart and maybe she wouldn't have signed such a thing. It'll be interesting to see what happens from here. |

If anyone is looking for holiday themed kits, Gossamer Blue has two really nice ones on sale for subscribers now and open to everyone soon. I'm not getting a DD kit this year, but am looking for new items to mix with my stash, and the Market Street and Pink Paislee lines have a vintage look to them that I love.
I have been subbing to their Life Pages kit since Feb. and have been more excited to receive it each month compared to my SC PL kit. The SC PL stamps have been sooo tiny lately. On the other hand, one Little Bird has been designing these great stamps I will use again and again. I love when they are a mix of phrases and images.

As far as the documenter kit (don't like the name - even just document would be better), my guess is they will reduce the number of cards. If they include more embellishments and make square corners, I would like it more but my guess is the number of cards will just be reduced. |
