What do you do when you're in a rut? I recently found myself a bit stuck, and I decided to scraplift the most recent page I'd saved for inspiration. I blogged about my process behind making scraplifting my own: how to get out of a scrapbooking rut. I'd love to hear your ideas about de-rutting and scraplifting!

I've tried scraplifting myself: found a LO I really felt proud of, sketched the bones of the design, and then I either repositioned the sketch (changed north-south to east-west) or mirror reversed it to see things in a different way. If I'm in a long-standing rut, I've been known to stop scrapping for substantial periods of time even though I still look at galleries for inspo. I've also tried to use nothing but scraps. But the best thing that really gets me motivated is to reorganize when I feel I have nothing "new" or inspiring. Guaranteed I will come across some trinket, tchotke, patterned paper or embellie that sparks something creative once again.

Reorganizing always kicks me into creative mode, too.

I like to find a new tool. I also will set out a punch or spray that I haven't used much and try to incorporate it. I just took two months off of scrapping because I did so many pages prior to May. I also find a friend that I can work with and just enjoy myself that day with no pressure.

Great blog post! Sometimes I have to create something ugly before I can make something cute, so whenever I create for the first time after a hiatus, I make something like a card or do a little PL that either takes little creativity - or that I don't care if it doesn't turn out well. Listening to PRT and browsing pretty LOs and ideas on Pinterest, and chatting on forums gets scrapbooking on my mind and gets me motivated to start again.

I also make cards, so sometimes I'll make a card and that will get me going and I'll move on to making LOs. I also listen to podcasts (Paperclipping Roundtable, although they have started to get on my nerves a bit and The Scrap Gals with Tiffany and Tracie---this is my current fave. It's almost like scrapping with two friends!

I start organizing my space (which I'm currently doing) and it helps me a lot.

Lately I've been grabbing one of my Scrapbook Generations kits and doing it. They come with photos and directions, so it's just the physical putting the page together. And that gets me going again! I think sometimes I'm blocked because I don't know what to do. I don't know what photos I want to scrap or what papers I want to use. So the SG kits take that part out of the equation a bit.
I also like to look through my recently purchased product basket and see if something in there sparks an idea.

I'm not creative, so using a sketch gets me going. Shopping also helps! I want to use my new thing on a page. When I'm becoming overwhelmed with all the possibilities, I pick one thing (use stickles, a die cut, ribbon, a stamp) and that will get me going on using other things. I think the biggest obstacle is being organized. I have to work in short bursts. I can't leave my stuff out. So, it's key to have something ready to go (a page kit made up) and no kids bugging me. This is probably weird, but I have to be in a good mood to scrap. Watching reruns of the Golden Girls makes me happy! I have no desire to do it when I'm angry. I might make a page I regret!

Love your layout ashley! And thanks for the great tips. I like t scraplift when I get stuck, or use a sketch or colour combination as a jumping off point.

I create a relaxing atmosphere. Burn my favorite candle and put on a good movie or tv show. I find I get stuck when I overthink things. This helps me just play and have fun.

I have been trying for a year to get out of my rut and I am finally getting there. I used to scrap almost daily and then barely anything. I was doing good to do a page a month. Not sure exactly why but it is coming back finally and I am happy! I had started scraping digital and now I am back to traditional most of the time-I like the feel of the paper and what I can do with my Silhouette! I still do a digi page now and then but seem happy with traditional right now.

My rut-busters include purging my stash (too much product overwhelms me and then I can't create) and then creating a card. The process of cutting, gluing and stamping really help my get those creative juices flowing.

I like my rut. It's comfortable, familiar, I make a lot of pages of the same style, my style, and I use a lot of product, which means I get to buy more product, which I also enjoy. No need for new and inspiring. I'm happy just doing my thing. The same thing I always do. Relaxing and nonstressful.

99.9% of my pages are scraplifted, so that would never help me get out of a rut, lol. My go-to's have already been listed but I'll chime in with my list. One of the things that almost always works for me is shopping - or at least browsing in a store. LSS preferred, but any big box will do in a pinch. Organizing my stash is another one. Seeing all my pretties, touching all my lovelies always gets me back in the mood. Watching YouTube videos of other peoples scrappy spaces always seems to make me want to get back in mine. You would think process or haul videos would do it, but nope. Gotta be the craft rooms. Don't ask me why . . . And lastly, watching Project Runway always makes me want to get crafty. Again, can't explain it. It just always works, lol.

I haven't done a LO in over 2 years. I took an early retirement and have the time, but the motivation is gone. There is a room upstairs full of unused supplies and the paper bought a couple of weeks ago is still in the bag. I've been thinking about doing a LO of my much loved little dog for several weeks but that is as far as it went. A sketch is a good idea so will give it a try tonight. Now to find one...

I go to a website that has layouts, like scrapbook.com, find a layout on a particular theme or subject, and copy it. I also go to my favorite paper companies and check their galleries for ideas.
My go-to plan is to re-watch Shimelle videos and a few other designers on Youtube.

I am out of pictures. I've been using some leftover pics that I've already scrapped and challenging myself use new sketches and leftover scraps and supplies. These are 2 sketches I've done. This one is from a sketch using 6x6 papers but I made it from scraps much smaller. I also have gone back through some pages and added some embellishments. I normally don't use a lot, but if I really try, I can seriously put a dent in my stash.

I know you are waiting anxiously to see my self assigned challenge of the day. I found this old b&w pic and wanted to try a black and white page. I found some on Pintrest and lifted.

I make cards or I make something for someone else. Or, I pull out a project in process or an incomplete kit and work on finishing it. I've also gone through my pictures until something inspires me and I really want to tell the story or memorialize those pictures.

Thanks, Ashley for liking all the pics I posted! I am still working on my leftover pics and paper scraps. Yesterday, I finished 3 more but did not use sketches so I didn't post them. It has been so much easier to use my scraps since I threw away about 75% of them last week. Since all these pics are already in the albums they need to be in, I put them in one of the older cousins book with hidden journaling to tell her why these unrelated pics of her cousins and grandparents trips are in her book. Family reunion coming up soon for 2 weeks so I should come home with plenty of pics. US:
