I just watched the video at work, worrying someone would come busting through the door wondering what all the noise was about. Really great job by the mom. Then I was concerned about how close his little head was to the dash.

I haven't watched yet but my first thought, why was he filming and not using both hands to HELP!

I guess my question is why didn't he pull over. He just kept driving. The mom ended up without a seatbelt and holding the baby in the front seat while he was driving. I know you're not thinking clearly, but you wouldn't pull over and call 911?

I think he should have pulled over, but I am uber impressed by how calm he was. I'm sure that helped his wife a lot. And he DID let his wife decide if he should pull over or keep driving toward help.

I saw them on GMA this morning (or it may have actually been a clip they showed from another interview the couple did) and he said he didn't have cell phone service or maybe even doesn't have a cell phone (because I think they are in Texas right?) so it wouldn't have helped them to pull over.
I can understand the wife saying don't stop while she was laboring and delivering I guess, but once you have a new born baby in your lap, you don't keep driving, you pull in somewhere and borrow a phone. That was just stupid.

Sometimes people are too busy filming things that I worry that they could be more helpful. Unless she told him she wanted him to film, then if that's what she wants, great!

He wasn't holding the phone in his hand. It was placed in the middle console.
He gave her the choice of stopping or going on to the hospital.
I think they did awesome. The husband was amazing- speaking calmly, convincing her the baby was breathing, etc. I'm sure the mother was beyond rational thought at the time, but she did a spectacular job.

okay. I saw it on the news this morning. I know it was edited to shorten it but how do you just whip out a human being from between your legs....while in a car....and without breaking much of a sweat? that was amazing. I hope most men don't think it's that easy.

On an earlier thread about this someone stated that it was a GoPro camera. And that allowed him to drive with one hand and help with the other. I know nothing of Houston roads, but I know around here there are some roads that are very dangerous to pull over on. Perhaps that was part of their decision. He mentions a birthing center, so that may have had something to do with it as well. if they wished to avoid a hospital, then calling an ambulance may not have been what they wanted to do. Or perhaps they felt that they were so close to the birthing center that they could get there in less time than if they waited for the ambulance. And again,if the road wasn't a good one for sitting on the shoulder, a longer stay there may have seemed more dangerous to them. I think they were both amazingly calm. I give them a lot of credit.

I've never had a baby so maybe it does make sense, but I couldn't figure out how she wasn't sitting on the baby as he was born... In the movies it always shows the woman on her back, whoha to the sky... She had a baby while sitting and her pants weren't even pulled all the way down... I'm so confused...lol

I saw this a couple of days ago, and having never had a baby myself, I was in awe. I think they both handled the situation extremely well. Yeah... I think it would have been smart to pull over once the baby came, but depending on where they were (possibly the freeway), that may have been difficult. They also had a lot going on and may not have been thinking clearly. No judgement from me.
That woman had an unmedicated delivery, in a moving vehicle, and managed to keep her cool. She's a champ in my book!

They did well under the circumstances. I also kept want her to wrap the baby in something, I could not tell if it was hot or cold in the car. But what a great job.
My cats ran from me when she screamed.

You know, I've heard of fast deliveries, but literally seeing this woman go from her water breaking to a baby in under 4 minutes was mind boggling. I went over 24 freaking hours between my water breaking and a baby, so it's hard for me to wrap my head around the whole thing even after seeing it!

Husband says, "We did it!"
Nope, SHE did it!
I've only had one baby, and sure glad it was not in the front seat of a car!!....a moving car!

On the YouTube comments for this video dad says they had 2 other children ages 2 and 1. I'm thinking they probably had to sort childcare (either the person getting to them or dropping of the kids) before heading to the center. It looks as though her waters didn't break until she was fully dilated and then whoosh waters and baby all in one go. I kept thinking why is she in the front seat, I so would have been sprawled out in the backseat, but they probably already had two carseats in the back.

They also said on the news clip that they felt like they went to the hospital too soon with the first two girls and therefore stayed home a lot longer - what they agree turned out to be too long - this time.
I just want to say I had a ten and a half pound baby via csection and the incision wasn't big enough and I'm a lot bigger than that mama.
