Dh has a way of doing this to me often. Grrrr..... I have huge anxiety about social situations. Part of feeling somewhat comfortable for me is making sure I feel good in what I have on.
Dh dh just told me we are going to his company owner's multi-million dollar ranch for a country concert and catered BBQ. It is this Friday night. I asked what I should wear and he asked his admin assistant. She has been with the company longer. She said, "Oh, it's just casual." Dh did not have her elaborate.
Since losing ing weight, I will need to most likely go buy something.
So, what would you wear? We are in the Midwest, so it will be warm.

If it will be warm, I would wear a sundress or maxi skirt and a top.

First of all the party sounds like fun! Don't buy anything you wouldn't wear again! Capris maybe or a flowing type sundress or skirt.

A casual, comfy summer dress that isn't short. And cute jewelry and cute shoes; flat sandals if you'll be outdoors.

How about a longish sundress with some nice sandals or flats? That sounds like a nice cool option, and will mix in well with either casual or a bit dressier guests. I understand your anxiety. I always have that too. Congratulations on the weight loss, that alone will make you feel better!

I would also be a bit anxious about what to wear. Call the admin assist. Find out if casual means dressy casual, i.e. sundresses, long skirts, etc. Or will we everyone show up in jeans or capris or shorts as it is a bbq and an outside venue. I'd want a few more specifications as to how casual it will be..... Good luck, and hope you have a fabulous time!

Thank you!
I was thinking sundress too, so I am glad to see that is what most suggested.

Maxi dress with a jean jacket if it gets cool at night. Or maxi skirt/shirt/jean jacket. You can always dress it up a bit more with jewelry.

Will you have to sit on the ground? To listen to the concert? I'd be more comfortable in capris if I had to get up and down from the ground. Just a thought...

With this type of event you should be OK trusting that it is casual, but it's still a work event so casual doesn't mean cotton shorts and a tank top. If you wear nice casual clothes, like capris or a summer dress you should be fine.
I wouldn't worry about this too much because it would be hard to over dress and look out of place as long as you're wearing something summer-y.

I agree with everyone else, either capris or a sundress and some cute flat sandals. You could top it off with a short jean jacket if it gets cool once the sun goes down.

Late afternoon / evening event? White pants or capris with a dressy top are still current here with flowy top and bangles. Short sun dress if you know what seating is like. Maxi dress, with subdued print, not one you'd also wear to beach or grocery store.
ETA I understand what you mean about dressing helps minimize angst. I'm the same way. I'm kinda amazed when people say "who cares what others think, wear whatever You want."

I have a longer (ankle length with side slits) slim fitting black linen sheath dress that I wear to events like what you are describing along with hand crafted copper jewelry. I don't do sandals, but have about 14 different pairs of black flip flops that I choose between. Where I am, flip flops (nice ones, no plastic or rubber) are a viable alternative to flat sandals.
It fits in with more dressier casual dressers and those who are dressed more casually. It is my go to outfit when I don't have a clue what to wear.
