So. Y'all, I have totally pulled a dork mom who uses technology that she doesn't understand move. Last night, my phone, which is pretty much about 10 years younger than Moses, freaked out on me. I kept pushing the home button to change to another app and it decided to skip that step and go straight to 'voice control.' From there, apparently it interpreted my curses (that probably would have earned a swear jar enough to take a vacation) as "facetime xxx." Xxx happens to be a girl/friend of my son's. (side note to the story: I have ZERO clue how her phone number much less her name associated with her phone number ended up in my phone? Some kind of voodoo iphone magic??) I don't know jack shit about how to facetime someone. I have never done it before, have no desire to do it. I am of a certain age where unless you are tilting your head at a precise and geometrically calculated angle, it is way too scary to even contemplate. (It is about the same age at which point you stop wanting to be on top while having sex-things are just too droopy.) Anyway. There are apparently was enough facetime connection with the boy's friend that there was cursing and a horrified face and before I finally figured out how to disconnect. While I sat staring at my phone in horror, thinking I was going to have to fess up to the boy, he texted me asking if I had 'accidentally facetimed his friend?" OMG. Apparently, she sent a text to their friends group text asking if anyone recognized the number. Which of course the boy did, and then they ALL laughed and wish they had seen it. According to the boy, the whole group thought it was hysterical and sent the boy a directive to teach me how to use facetime-but not too soon. It was too funny and they hope it happens again. So y'all help a mother out, surely I am not alone in the goofiest parent moment? Share please, lessen my humiliation.

That is funny, though I'm sorry about your distress.
The kids sound great! And your son should teach you Facetime- it's not much harder than texting or making a call.

I'm forever walking into DS's room, putting on a silly voice and pretending to be the dog, talking absolute nonsense, only for him to turn around his phone, and tell me to say hello to whatever girl he happens to be Facetiming. They must all think I'm a nutcase.

Sorry, I don't think I could even come close. And I am happy that it happened to you and NOT me. Thanks for the chance for me to have a good laugh.

It is the one gift of getting older. You are expected to do certain stupid things, even when you are really smart or good with technology. Kids think that 40+ means you belong in a home. Accept it and laugh. It's all good.

That's hilarious. My daughter was teaching her dad to use twitter and he accidentally tweeted nothing. He then got one follower. We still tease him about his one fan.

Best thing I've read all day! I'm sorry to laugh but I pictured myself at every turn. Years ago one son inherited my old iPhones and 2-3 models later we still get cross contacts at times. It's a mystery no genius has been able to solve. I wish you'd write a book about mothering teen boys, you have a gift!

OMGosh, I wouldn't have a clue and hope that possible feature is NOT on my phone. All that's happened to me is receiving 'back pocket' calls from some of the grandkids.
ETA: I do love your 'Technodolt' word though. It sounds so much better than my "I'm computer stupid".

What a great story! Love your humor (but sorry for your distress!). I will tell you a face time story that happened this weekend. We just upgraded SO's DD to an iPhone, she had a flip phone (she is 10 - and the only reason she has a phone is because that is the only way we can get ahold of her when she is with her mom and that is a totally different LONG story) and for her birthday she wanted an iPod. We thought this would be cheaper in the long run, both on one device. She has had it a week, same phone number, that did not change. She gets this message that someone wants to face time her but we don't recognize the number so we ignore. Send a text message to ask who this is. Never receive a response. Did not think about it again. Sunday night at about 9:30pm her phone goes off. SO had just gotten out of the shower, so he was walking around without a shirt on. He grabs the phone and decides to answer it. He holds it so you an see he doesn't have a shirt on, but close so really all you can see is his face and a little shoulder. It is quite intimidating. On the other end is an older woman, in her pajamas, more like a negligee, sitting back on a sofa. OMG, the look on her face! She does a double take, grabs the phone and turns it black. All SO said was "wrong number" and we can hear her saying "how does that happen?!" as she is hanging up! We are talking less than 3 seconds. LOL Not sure who she was thinking she was face timing or what she was going to be doing, but I imagine her distress was very similar to yours!
