This was asked on page 10 of the MISTI thread, but has not received an answer.
Has anyone tried both the MISTI and the Cuttlebug tool? If so, how do they compare, please?

I have got to ask, what is the Cuttlebug Tool? I have the green Cuttlebug but what is it that people are meaning about the tool part?

I think this somehow relates to the Cuttlebug All-In-One tool.

This was asked on page 10 of the MISTI thread, but has not received an answer. Has anyone tried both the MISTI and the Cuttlebug tool? If so, how do they compare, please? Here's the thing: if someone has a MISTI already, they probably aren't going to buy the Cuttlebug All-In-One to compare it (unless they are one of the lucky ones whose MISTI cracked and the owner wouldn't replace it). And those who bought the Cuttlebug tool can only tell you that it seems to work (or not) for what they're doing, but they can't say how it compares to the MISTI. You're looking for a really small group of people who have both It's like asking those of us who came up with homemade versions how they compare. I can tell you that the one I made ~~seems~~ to work the same, compared to the videos I've seen; and that the stamping area is just a ~~hair~~ smaller from what I can figure out, and that I'm very happy with what I'm able to do with it; I can't say that it works exactly the same or how it compares for certain. I don't have the actual MISTI to compare it to, and I don't plan on getting one any time in the near future. Hopefully, though, someone who does have both will see your question and give you an answer

I understand that it is a small group of people who can answer this, and maybe only one or two people. I guess I am wondering if someone had the Cuttlbug all-in-one tool before buying the MISTI, or who had a chance to use a MISTI, who can tell me the answer. In looking at a video of it, I am thinking that it looks like the base is shallower than the MISTI, but I can't tell from the video.

Here's a blog post about the Cuttlebug plate which says the lid and base are both 1/4 inch thick. maryscraftydesigns.blogspot.co.nz/2015/06/cuttlebug-all-in-one-folder-used-for.html?m=1

Thank you, I had seen that link. It isn't the thickness of the lid and base that I need to know, but the space between. The more carefully I read the post, though, the more that I realize some cling stamps are too thick for the Cuttlebug All-in-One tool. That tells me it will not work the way I hope, and which is what I mainly needed to know.

That tells me it will not work the way I hope, and which is what I mainly needed to know. I'm glad you got your answer! That's kind of what I gathered from reading that link as well. Can I ask what you're wanting to do? If you just want something like the MISTI that's fairly easy to make yourself, find a picture frame where the wood is pretty much flat, get a piece of plexiglass from Home Depot or a hardware store where they will cut it to size (I actually bought a tool to cut my own and can tell you that it is easy to do, as long as you have a metal ruler to cut against and take your time) and a couple of hinges and glue the hinges on with E6000 glue. Easier than trying to drill holes for the hinges and screwing them on. Then you just need to cut chipboard or matboard that fits into the frame to get the spacing right inside the frame, and you're good to go. The frame I used, I needed 5 layers of matboard which gave me about 1/4" inch between where the lid sat on top of the frame and the bottom of the well where the cardstock to be stamped sits. Some of my rubber stamps I need to add a piece of thin fun foam to the well to get a good impression, some I don't. For clear stamps, I use a piece of the thicker fun foam (3mm). It's really working pretty well; the glue hasn't come undone and I haven't gotten any cracking - and I'm not particularly gentle with it, since replacing the lid will be pretty easy if I ever have to do it.

Thanks, I did make my own "hack" version of MISTI with a picture frame, polycarbonate, etc. I just wanted to know about a potential back up in case my hack job doesn't hold up. Mine is thick enough to take the Heartfelt Creations cling rubber stamps, and the rest will work with layers, I think. I did glue the hinges, which is what has worried me, wondering if they would come off at some point. I used a different adhesive. Now I know a better one to try if I need to repair mine at some point. Thanks!

I use the cuttlebug plate and love it. And cling foam stamps work perfectly fine. I position my stamps at the opening in rather than the hinge end. No problems.
