I can't bring myself to click on the link because it will disturb me to no end. I've read articles that said many killers started off torturing or killing animals. stupid, evil, cruel, sociopath, and dangerous would definitely apply to this or any person that hurts animals.

Honestly I'd like the same exact thing done to him. I couldn't read the article, just the title. That was enough for me. How old was this teen? For some reason torture to animals and children hurts me more than torture to adults. I know that's odd, but that's how I am. I think it's because animals and children are defenceless. Yes, this dog had his teeth and nails, but who's to say this ahole didn't muzzle this dog before he inflicted this abuse upon him? Obviously this teen had the upper hand.
Yes, I've also read and do know that children and teens who do this are more likely to grow up to be psychopaths and become killers or serial killers. This is a huge step. It takes a sick, twisted mind. There are so many others steps he could have taken. He could have easily taken the dog to a shelter and turned him in.

It doesn't mention where the dog is now. I hope that wherever it is and wherever it ends up, it's not in danger. If this kid gets out he might blame the dog, his parents, who knows.

The teen is 18, he recently moved in with his dad and his dad's girlfriend. He was angry that the dog wasn't potty trained. The teen claims that the owner (his dad) mentioned offhand (after also being angry about the dog's messes in the house) that he wished the dog would run away or get hit by a car so he took it upon himself to do this. The dog needs a better home than that.

I can't click on that link. I was following Caitlyn's Story the dog who had her mouth duck taped shut. The sadness stays with me and I can't shake it off.
I believe child abuse and animal abuse is on the rise and sociopaths or evil whatever you want to call it surrounds us, the lack of empathy. The school shootings going back to Columbine should have been a wake up call. it is all a part of the decline of our society.

The school shootings going back to Columbine should have been a wake up call. it is all a part of the decline of our society. I guess it depends Decline of our society compared to when? We are doing better than when a portion of the population was enslaved. We are doing better than the Wild West where you could shoot a person and not much could be done about it. We are doing better than when huge portions of our society had no rights at all. Couldn't own property, couldn't do business for themselves, coukdny vote, could barely speak for themselves. We are doing better than putting a portion of the population in interment camps simply because of where they came from. Every era has its own burdens to bear. These are ours. How we respond will affect how the next generations live, but they will have burdens as well, we just don't know them yet.

I can't read those kinds of stories but I get it. ANY child who hurts an animal is either horribly disturbed and not properly supervised, or probably needs to be in a care facility. That level of violence is unforgiveable for anyone, but when kids do it, holy shizz that is really scary and bad news. Period. No wiggle room or negotiating that.

This quote from the comments sums up exactly how I feel.
And 18 yrs old is no "kid." He's not four and made a terrible mistake because he didn't know better.
He doused a dog in gasoline and set him on fire.
I feel sick.

I feel like maybe this kid has an abused troubled past. This is deviant type behavior. Sadly I feel like people like this can not be helped for fixed.

I made myself read the article after I posted my response. Then I had to leave to get ready to go out to dinner with my husband to celebrate our 20th anniversary and never got back to post last night-I got tipsy on 1 margarita and champagne with dessert. Guess that will happen if you're not a regular drinker It was a wonderful dinner though and celebration. Anyway, I don't shirk from news stories realizing how very important it is to know the truth-so I made myself read it. This was no KID! He was 18 years old, legally an adult. The dog was chained up on the porch. The dog was trapped, no way to get away or defend himself. This young man knew exactly what he was doing. He poured gas on the dog and well, you can guess the rest. His girlfriend came out and saw what was happening. She poured water on the dog and called 911. Surprisingly, the dog survived. He is being treated at a vet's office and was hopefully released to someone other than this family. I can't even imagine how they would even think to release this dog to back to the family who tortured him and tried to kill him. What concerns me though is that the article didn't say. Usually they say-the dog is being cared for at the home of a foster family or whatever. Hopefully it was just because they hadn't gotten that far. Maybe by the time the article came out the dog was still being treated-that's my hope. Debbie in MD.
