Ok so I don't technically *have* a bucket list, but I think being rescued by hot NYC firefighters should be on every warm blooded woman's bucket list if they do have one....
We were in NYC for one night before leaving on a vacation with extended family. There were 8 of us, MIL in a wheelchair, so we didn't all fit in the hotel elevators. DH, BIL and I got in the 2nd one and two other families got on after us. It was tight, we aren't tiny. When the elevator got to the lobby, it went "bing", but then crashed down the floor below the lobby, and we later found out, halfway below that floor. Ouch. I instantly broke out into a full body sweat. Thank goodness we didn't freefall from the 24th floor! It was several minutes before we got someone at the front desk to answer the alarm. Several more calls of the alarm before we heard anyone outside the door and 40 minutes before they told us the fire department was on it's way. Our cells didn't work to call or text. It got very hot in the elevator very quickly. The entire back wall was mirrored and it was all fogged up.
So we were finally rescued over an hour later by several very handsome New York City firefighters (all three of us were wearing Red Sox shirts, which did not go unnoticed, lol). The first couple of people were able to climb up and out, but then once there was room the FD passed down a chair for the rest of us to climb out as we were half a floor below the actual floor.
We missed breakfast, needed additional showers and a change of clothes and got a room temp bottle of spring water for our troubles from the hotel.
So a huge thanks from this fat mama to the hot NYFD men who rescued this sweaty damsel in distress!

OMG, that's crazy! I would have freaked out. And all you got was a bottle of water? Hm....I think they should have comped your room.
Glad you are all okay. You just never know what the day has in store for you!

Mmmm...There is nothing hotter than a firefighter in bunkers. *sigh*
Glad you were able to get out of the elevator!
(and just a side note, it's FDNY)

Omg I hate elevators with a passion! I once went up 6 flights of stairs after running a marathon because in the morning the elevator took about 10 seconds too long to open. Your story is going to be in the back of my mind every time I step foot in an elevator

I was having a panic attack just reading your post! What did you do while you were trapped - talk, pray, remain silent? Thank goodness you were all OK.

It's great you were rescued by a hot fireman. FDNY to boot!
That said I would have been scared sh!tless! I have been caught in an elevator before (I was alone) and that was the end of a workday for me! You must have been terrified! Between floors happened to me, too, and stepping up out of an elevator is not a fun morning! I am glad you are ok. I am very glad you are ok. I was so scared and if I were scared YOU would have been more scared, as you fell a lot further than I did!
I am glad you are ok. I really am.

I would have flipped the eff out. And the hotel would have given me more than water for my trouble. Glad you are safe and that you could enjoy the hot firemen!

Yikes! That's a fear of mine...jus being stuck, let alone falling. EEK!!!
So glad y'all are okay. I'd be asking for more than water, though!

I was married to a firefighter. It's overrated. LOL
I would have been major LIVID if I'd only been offered a bottle of water. Someone should be washing my feet (and my underpants) if my elevator CRASHED.

It would be terrifying to get back in an elevator now!
All I can think of is how bad I would have needed a restroom after my morning 2 cups of coffee! LOL Yike! Glad you are ok after this - but I do think your stay should be free!
