So, with the disappointing news about Merrick selling out to Purina, I need to find dry cat food for my furry children. it has to be grain free for one of the ladies, waist friendly for one of my boys, and have quality sourced ingredients - not from China- for them all! They are all indoor and have free range of dry food and they share a can of wet food each night. I have been looking at taste of the Wild, but can't find any brand that is so clealry sourced from USA (not that that is fool proof, but certainly makes me feel better then China ingredients) as Merrick.

I feed my cat Wellness Core Grain Free, but I'm looking all over their website, and I can't tell where they source their ingredients.

I use Purina OM for my fat indoor cat. Their products are made in the US.

I feed my cats Taste of the Wild and don't see any info on the bag, but you may be able to find out more by calling them. The number on the bag for questions and comments is 800-342-4808.

No advice, I'm sorry. My cats eat Merrick canned food so I'll be watching this thread.... I'm pretty frustrated as my cats are finicky eaters. I'm not looking forward to changing their food.

Subbing to this thread too.
Right now I'm considering Taste of the Wild (as it is also on Amazon) but I need to do a little more reading.

For canned cat food, if you can stomach the cost of it, Tiki Cat chicken varieties and Nutro Natural Choice Loaf varieties are fabulous. Tiki Cat is very high meat protein and zero carb. Nutro has more fat than Tiki Cat, but still very low carb (0-2%).
To be honest I don't know about the ingredient sourcing, but both foods have been awesome for my cat with stomach issues. He had the most foul-smelling runny poo until I found these foods. Poor cat was given up twice in two years because of his tummy issues.
Anyway, Tiki Cat info can be found at petropics.com, and Nutro is at Nutro.com
I don't know about dry. My cats only get canned food. Spoiled little turds!

Tiki and Solstic are the wet foods they get, but I need dry food too. I just read on the dog site that Call of the Wild is made by diamond and they have a terrible reputation and lots of recalls. Ugh. Why did Merrick do this? ?

We used to feed Wellness Core but one of our cats had skin reactions to it, so that one is out. That is why we switched to Merrick. Going to look at the other suggestions.

My cats will only eat Rachel Ray nutrish or purina beyond. Chicken flavored.
As for wet food. Ha! I have bought organic , free range, holistic, raised by vestal virgins one tablespoon in the can food for them , they turn their nose up at it and the dog sneaks in and eats it.
Bought them a can of friskies ,40 cents. They almost killed themselves trying to get every little slup up!

Friskies uses lower quality meat ingredients (which makes it more affordable), but the Classic Pâtés are still low enough in carbs to not cause health issues.

Skellinton, you could check out the Nutro dry food. They don't specify on their website exactly where the ingredients come from, but they make a point to emphasize the traceability and safety of all their ingredients. Their customer service might tell you if you call them. www.nutro.com/why-choose-nutro.aspx

They want the cheap stuff. They will not touch people food either.

Our dogs were eating Merrick dry and wet food, but we recently switched them over to Earthborn Holistic. I still have a case of Merrick wet good that we will use up, but I'll be switching that over to Earthborn as well (as long as everyone likes it).
For what it's worth, my girls seem to like Earthborn better anyway.

Placed an order with Chewy to have time to figure out what to feed them.
I need to switch my dogs, too. They've been eating Natural Balance.
Anyway, I was looking at Orijen. Dear word the prices! And, one of the critters is a 65 lb lab mix.
The older kitten eats a combo of dry and wet. She's on the weight control food right now, though not sure how effective it is considering I don't know how much wet she is eating. The younger kitten eats canned, except for when she gets into the older kitten's dry food. She has her own dry kitten food available, but ignores it. Between the two, they are eating two 5.5 ounce cans a day.

I would love to be able to feed Orijen, but with 5 cats I don't know that we can swing it. I think we may try to figure it out though, I am going to go to a local naturalistic pet food store on Friday and see which food is closest to Merrick ingredient wise and see if they have samples so we can see what our picky pants will eat!
I really appreciate all the advice, it is so stressful! We had one bad experience with Canidae and I don't want to go through that again! Our little Snicket is fine now, but she was really sick and it was so stressful, i don't want to have something as basic and necessary as their food make them sick!

We had an incident with Blue Buffalo and the older kitten. I searched for recalls on the BB food after she got better and people had been having the same problems for a number of weeks. It's hard knowing that you are trying to do your best for them and inadvertently made them sick. Boo on the Merrick people! Makes you wonder when they sell to Purina.
