Our poor old cat has never had really good health, especially his teeth. We've had to take him for extractions a few times in the past several years. Last week suddenly one morning the side of his face was swollen so we took him in and he had another infected tooth and it needed to be removed. My cat is not very smart, to start with. For example, he often sits with his face to the wall and just stands there. He also can't figure out how to PUSH his way through an OPEN door (you know, like most cats do, use their paw or face to swing the door open and then walk through); but instead picks at the door and pulls it closed on himself. He's the only cat I've ever known who doesn't understand how to walk through an open door. Anyway, since his last dental surgery he's been even stupider. I'm pretty sure the vet removed his last wisdom tooth.

awwww, the poor guy! (lol! at the 'last wisdom tooth' comment... ) our youngest cat will sometimes shut herself in the laundry room (that's where their litter boxes and food bowls are)... we'll realize we haven't seen her for a while, go to look, and yup! the door is shut. She never meows, or anything!) I hope he feels better soon!

the face to the wall is funny. I'd like to have a dumb cat...mine is too freaking smart. I'm pretty sure that I'm the dumbest one in my household which consists of a cat, dog and teenage dd.

our other cats are sometimes dumb, too... 'brain the size of a pea' is the expression we use when they're doing something odd, like chasing their tail, or sitting and staring off into space.
(then again, one of our Shelties will sometimes stare at her reflection in the [black] dishwasher, thinking she's watching another dog... so maybe it's all of them, not just the cats??)

Haha! One of our cats is exceptionally stupid, too. He's very entertaining though!

My cat had her teeth extracted also. Unfortunately infected teeth in cats can sometimes mean other health issues and Kitty developed stomach cancer soon afterward. I had to had her put down because it was not curable. Good luck I hope everything turns out ok.

Aww, poor baby Maybe he just has some lingering effects from the anaesthsia that will wear off? I hate when my cats have to go to the vet, I suffer with them. I used to think they were both pretty smart; then I bought the this "mouse-shaped treat dispenser" toy from Temptations (it's really cute!) and my whole opinion changed. Between the two of them, they can't figure out how to reliably get a treat out of the stupid thing. But it is very entertaining to watch them try.

Our vet hasn't mentioned anything else of concern.

The surgery was a week ago, so I think he should be recovered by now?? Not sure. He's acting normal -- wants love, purrs, keeping his usual schedule, etc -- so I feel like he must be feeling OK. Just dumb.
