I think a weighted blanket would help me and my panic attacks. But when I look online they're $250-$350.
I can't really see to save my life. Do you think it would work to buy bean bags and attach them to a blanket?
Any other ideas for me?
Auto correct failure: I can SEE, but can't really SEW!!

I had no idea these were a thing. But, like the writer in the first linked project, the lead apron at the dentist's IS very calming to me, too.

Here is one that is not a nice soft blanket, but looks like it can be made very inexpensively.
I would think adding the bean bags would also work, but you would need to add them not at the edges but around the blanket.

Dd bought one- it's a single wide - like it only covers your body. I think it was $150 on Amazon. She really likes it. I've put it on me and it does feel really calming.

Do you think it would work to buy bean bags and attach them to a blanket? Any other ideas for me? Do you mean you can't SEW? If so, you might want to correct that, as people are posting sewing patterns for you. Honestly, since they are for panic attacks, I would find a way to buy one. You deserve it. If you needed a piece of medical equipment for $300 for a heart condition, would you buy it?

The bean bags I know of are typically rather light weight and the "beans" crush down easily. I can't see them making a bood blanket weight.

I don't think bean bags will work for a couple of reasons. 1) unless you get a lot of them, they won't provide the weight you are looking for. 2) the weight should be as evenly distributed as possible so that it isn't heavier in one area than another. 3) comfort level. Bean bags are not going to be as comfortable as something that is actually partner the blanket

Another option is a weighted shoulder wrap. One of my students had one last year.
You can buy them or make one from a Boppy cover. Is that the right name for the baby pillows that are shaped like a horseshoe?

Did you check autism sites? Some of those have them slightly cheaper. They're used a lot for sensory issues. Sensory goods had them listed between $120 and $150. Depends on weight and size. I've looked into making them but honestly it's about the same price to buy. Maybe slightly cheaper to make.

I borrowed one to see if it was going to help her then looked into making one. It was going to end up being roughly the same price to buy and I knew the quality would surpass anything I could make!!

I'd have to save a ton of money to make it worth my while to sew one. In one of the links posted, the woman had a room lined with shelves full of bolts of fabric - most (all) of us would have to go out and buy fabric. Not to mention ordering the special filling beads.

Thank you for the links/ideas. elaine you are right. If it was a medicine I'd figure it out. DH isn't working so money is tight. I'm going to see if my therapist can order one so my insurance can help pay.

There are a lot of weighted blanket options on Etsy in various price ranges.

I had no idea they were a thing, either, but like a PP wrote, I do enjoy the sensation of the lead apron at the dentist's office. And I like a lot of blankets on me when I sleep-- even in the summer I need a sheet and an afghan over my feet or else I'm a really restless sleeper, too... this all now makes a bit more sense!

What about just a weighted vest since money is tight? It would be portable and could go with you places. You can also get just a weighted lap pad, you could even get it in the shape of an animal.
