DH and I are flying Allegiant (sp?) to St. Petersburg/Clearwater, FL on July 31st. We are going to use carry on bags with just clothing, no HBA items. (We will get the basics at the Dollar Tree when land. We will be staying with my sister and do laundry as necessary.) My question is about the carry on bags. The Allegiant websites states bags must be this size for carry on: 14x9x22. I have this bag. duffle bag Will it work for carry on or do I need to find something that is the exact size or smaller? Or just take a chance and have it checked if it is considered to big? We are on a non-stop flight. This is our first flight. I have never flown but my sister has flown (she is in the military) and told us about Allegiant Air. I need to find DH a duffle bag also. Any ideas for good, cheap bags since we will probably not fly again for a while.

I've not flown that airline but usually they insist it be the exact size or smaller because it must go easily between the supports for the seat in front of you or it must allow for x number of equally sized bags to fit in the overhead. While an inch seems a small amount it becomes an insurmountable amount when trying to get a bag under a seat so you can sit down and get out of the way.

If it isn't full and you can get it into the checker thing, it won't be a problem.
That said, Allegiant charges for carryon luggage, so be prepared for that.

Allegiant charges for a carry on, no matter what the size. I'd likely get a rolling suitcase because it's easier to get in the plane.

Thanks! I just ordered two small rolling totes from Amazon. We are already paying $30 for each bag, don't really want to pay more than we need to.

We leave Tri City airport on July 31 around 3:30 pm and fly straight to the St.Petersburg (PIE) airport. I am so grateful for a non-stop flight for my first flight. I would be scared of missing our connection or getting on the wrong plane. LOL!!
Another question I just remembered!! Some one said to get water bottles/drinks after you go through security. Is that when you first check in or what? Can you take snacks/drinks on the plane? Total flying newbie here so forgive me!

You'll know you are going through security when you have to remove your shoes, put shoes and all metal objects in a tray on a conveyor belt, walk through a metal detector or body scan machine, have your bag x-rayed... THAT is security. Take empty bottles you can fill at a water fountain because buying drinks after security gets very pricy. Some snack foods are ok, some are not. Check the airline's website for detailed information. eta: Their website isn't very informative. Basically, avoid "gel" types of foods like yogurt, gummy bears, pudding. Stick with things like nuts, pretzels, chips, trail mix, protein bars.

You can take snacks from home, but liquids more than 3oz have to be purchased after security. Even small airports like PIE have kiosks to get water or a fountain drink. Airlines like United or Delta offer a complementary soda on board, but allegiant charges for this so you definitely want to bring your own snacks and get something to drink before you get on the plane if you think you'll get thirsty. If it's a short flight, say less than two hours, I normally just eat a big breakfast or lunch and I'm good to go until I land unless I have major delays!
