My nieces best friend got engaged and is having a party. She's looking for a unique gift idea. I told her I'm sure my "peas" will have some ideas. I've already suggested a nice basket with toasting glasses and cake cutter. Possibly even a wedding planning book. My other idea was a set of good luck Christmas ornaments; I think it's a German tradition. What say the "peas" ?

Let's see, how about a nice etiquette book? But, if we must insist on buying a present for a woman who just got an expensive ring and will expect presents for a bridal/wedding shower and again at a wedding; a safe for all their important documents. Maybe the etiquette book could go inside. Seriously, I got a safe when I got married. I thought it was the best gift ever.

Whatever she gets them, I'd recommend throwing in one of these books - either The 5 Love Languages or The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. The latter was used as the foundation for our pre-marital prep (non-religious), and it is fabulous. 5 Love Languages is equally good although a bit more specific. There's a men-specific version of 5 Love Languages, she could buy a matching set (especially if she thinks the groom won't read it otherwise). I think there's something nice about including something that gives a nod to preparing for the marriage in addition to the wedding.
Other gift ideas: - An hour consultation with a professional wedding planner (some offer this at a reasonable rate - Ring cleaning set or machine (there is something called a Diamond Dazzle stick that would be nice to throw in a little basket of things)

But you KNOW there will be brides who will be all, "She thinks our marriage is going to fail and bought us these books!". If SO and I decide to get married these are gifts I'D really like though, GREAT ideas!!!
