Bleh! I guess call the vet in the AM and see what they say...or do you have an emergency vet where you live that you could get on the phone to ask?

Dawn dishwashing liquid alone beats them all. It's all we use.
Run a fan to get fresh air in. If your dog touched cushions, pillows etc, take them out of the house. They like to try to rub it off on your stuff.
Good luck

the dawn, peroxide, baking sode worked pretty well for us..you have to let it sit on them before rinsing and then possibly do it again. good luck!!

First of all, you should never scrub him all over. ONLY the parts that were sprayed, otherwise you're spreading the oil all over his body.
We used the dawn, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda cocktail on Kellie when he was sprayed and it worked fairly well. The next day I bought another product from a pet store and that got rid of most of the residual.
Hopefully you'll get the smell to dissipate.

It will rub on on anything he touches. You'll need to check the house for scent deposits. This is what I have used with success: Skunk Off

That crate will smell like skunk forever now... When my last dog was skunked, at night during the summer, she spent the night outside and then I brought her to the grooming salon at Petsmart to have them de-skunk her first thing in the morning.
I learned the hard way, because the previous dog was skunked and I brought her inside. It was over a year before we got the smell out of the house. It would appear any time it rained or the humidity went up. Anything your dog has come in contact with will smell like skunk. We tossed a lot of stuff.

We have a dog wash in our town. Similar to a car wash but with a ramp the dog walks up onto a draining table, with sides. There is a setting on the sprayer for skunk remover. Maybe your town has such a business?

Once everything dries it shouldn't smell, but if the dog gets wet again it will. It takes a while. I keep De-Skunk in my laundry room. Learned the hard way.

Tomato juice is a old standard.
Irish spring.
You need to soak the dog. For at least an hour. Also We have shaved long haired dogs.
And fading skunk smells like strong coffee. Or that is what I tell myself. Makes the smell bearable

Be prepared for your dog to smell faintly of skunk for quite a while. My dog has been skunked 3 times. They are all over our neighborhood and she doesn't learn. We did baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. It knocks the smell down. But I could still smell it for three months if she got wet or hot.
Something set off a skunk in our neighborhood tonight. I smelled it, then realized the dog was in the back yard. Luckily it wasn't her this time.
Good luck

My sister swears by douche! She keeps that in supply, plus it has a handy spray nozzle to go with it. She can stand back and spray them with the douche. She has tried it all and she says this works the best for her. She has Rottweilers.

Our vet said Powdered Massengil douche mixed with water. Saturate the stinky fur and let it sit a few minutes. Then rinse. The douche neutralizes the odor. When the fur dries the stink is gone! Tested several times on our nosey Dalmatian.

I feel your pain. Only it wasn't my dog, it was my 13 year old kid who took a direct hit. I still dry heave when I smell skunk. It didn't bother him at all.

Dawn dish soap. Straight on before you use water. It will be kind of hard to scrub but as you are putting it on you are taking off the skunk oil. let it sit for a few minutes. Get it a little wet but not like you are going to rinse it off. scrub some more. as you scrub get it a little wetter. scrub some more. you don't have to scrub hard. keep doing this until the dawn starts to get really foamy. then add your dog shampoo. get it a little more wet. then scrub. as you scrub you can start getting it more wet. let the shampoo and dawn sit on the dog for a few minutes. then rinse. Repeat as many times as you need. but it should only take a couple times. We did this when I worked as a groomer. The dawn, proxide, and baking soda it a joke. It don't work as well as straight dawn. Dawn takes the oil off animals and birds after oil spills.
Good luck.
