I have tried numerous ways of storing my scraps so that I would use them and not hate putting them away after making a layout or card I think I found my answer. I have them all sorted by color and in the small Cropper Hopper paper holders. I then put them in one of the cubes of my book cases and I have been putting them away quickly and they are really handy when I am working on a card or layout. Here's a shot of how they look! Here's a link to a photo in our gallery in case you are interested. Scrap organization

I used to use file folders, but that got messy and the scraps would get dusty before I had a chance to use them up. Plus 12" long stuff didn't fit neatly in the folders. So I switched to four sets of the three drawer 12x12 Sterilite drawers and put one color family (cardstock only) per drawer except pink and purple are together. I keep them stacked right under my desk so I can reach down and pull something out or throw something in easily. I added another unit under my desk to store leftover stickers or bits and pieces of embellishments that I think I can use on cards or other small projects. I think if that stuff is kept handy it will get used up faster too.

I like your solution! I've chosen not to color code or really organize at all. I have a large envelope for solids and one for patterns. I like to use them when I'm looking for inspiration or don't have a specific idea in mind.

I use a legal size expanding file foilo. I grab it first. But when I implemented it I went thru them and got rid of small scraps. Scraps are great for die cutting, matting even testing.they just need to be assecible.

I love hearing how everyone store their scraps and what works and doesn't. I keep my scraps in two drawers beside my desk - one for patterns and one for solids. There is no real order (unless you count newest on top) and I just rifle through the drawers until i find something that works. I use my scraps so much more now that I store them this way.

I am so glad to see all these solutions for scraps! I too use mine alot but just could never get them where it was easy to put them away. We pay good money for paper and I just can't throw it away if it is large enough to make something else. Even if I just punch a butterfly or circle from it.

I use page protectors. I have one color per protector. I put them into a notebook. That way when I go to scrap places I just grab my notebook. I have one for solid card stock and one for patterned paper.

I keep mine in one box. If the piece is stil fairly big, I keep it with the larger pieces. I also don't keep tiny scraps or ones I won't use.

That's great that you found something that works well for you. I throw mine in a box and dig through.

I seperate my scraps by color and put them in ziplock bags and throw them all in a box. When I'm ready to scrap it's easy for me to just grab the box and see if I can use that before I cut a new piece of paper.

I am so glad I shared this with everyone. I too never thought about putting them vertical-I had tried numerous ways and none worked for me. This is so quick and easy putting them away and getting them out to use. I put patterns in with the solids and go by the main color.

I think if that stuff is kept handy it will get used up faster too. I had the same problem you did crazy4scraps so I ended up using the Iris black six drawer rolling cart. I have my scraps divided by color and put two colors per drawer like green and blue, black, grey and brown, red and orange and so on. Scrapincin you have the same Iris black six drawer cart in your scrap room that I am taking about. I know it takes up a lot of "real estate" but for me this is what ended up working best. When I need a certain color of paper I just pull out the corresponding drawer out completely, place it on my desk and root through that drawer for the color and piece that might work. This way I save cutting into a 12x12 sheet of paper. I love how we all end up finding different solutions for scrapping storage needs Debbie in MD.

I love that cart-it actually holds all of my stamping supplies. I love that I can roll it over to my desk and everything is right at hand! I agree everyone likes things a little different but we all share our ideas and help another person out.

i use page protectors as well - one for each colour and then another one for double sided papers or papers that can't really be sorted into one colour group. I have a large cloth covered box I got from IKEA ages ago and they sit in there on the shelf under my desk. Works well for me - i just have to reach down and grab the batch with the colour I'm looking for. I have found I actually use my scraps alot more now.

I use a scraponizer 12x12x1 box that I keep next to my patterned paper which I flip through when I pull papers for my layout or project. I don't bother sorting since they get mixed up all so easily. It's not too big so it forces me to pare down my scraps when it starts to get too full.

I love those carts so much I have 7 of them! That's why it was easy to let one go to use just for scraps Three of them hold my stamping supplies-one just for ink. 3 of them hold office supplies, 4 are for stampin/scrappin supplies. They are very handy. 4 fit under my desk and the other 3 I have on the other side of my room in a row. I bought a wooden board at Home Depot, sanded it, stained it and put it on top of all 3. On top of that I have various things like big glass candy jars filled with ribbon, baskets filled with mini albums, and a drawer thing filled with wooden stamps. Debbie in MD.

I had so many scraps that I ended up cutting them into 4 x 6's or 12 x 2's. I store them by color and since they are all one of two sizes they are very easy to see. Anything small than that goes into the trash. I do two of almost every layout, so my scraps can't be too small.

After this thread being on the board for so many days, I guess it finally seeped into my psyche. Last night I cleaned out my scrap drawer. I emptied a big trash can 4 times. I had so many that even if I had the perfect scrap, I would not have found it. This drawer was so full, I could hardly close it. I scrap primarily 11x8 so I have a lot of 3.5 inch strips that I can't use. They are gone along with a lot of other small scraps.

I just put mine in one of those photo shoeboxes. I keep it right on my desk and rifle through it when I'm making a layout because I need them right there in easy reach or I will never use them. I used to keep them by color in gallon sized bags in a basket underneath my desk and it was too much of a hassle to pull it out, rifle through and put them back. This way, the volume stays very low because I use them all the time - for mats, for punching out shapes, strips for a background, etc.

I use to have my separated but did not really use them. Now if it is 12 X6 at least I put it back with the original paper. For smaller scraps I have a drawer I put them all in that is right under my scrap area and I pull things out of it. When the drawer is full i pull it out and pull out only things that immediately grab my eye then throw the rest in the recycle.
This has been working really well for me. I have also been much more selective about the scraps I keep. When I pull out a group of items from my Stash to make a kit, when I am done with that kit I have been just throwing the scraps away unless it is a really special piece. I have so much that I do not need to be hanging on to all these tiny scraps. lol
Sometimes If i love the color I will punch out a few basic shapes and put them in a baggie and add them to my embellishments then toss the rest.
