I have been a pea for a looooong time. I have seen pea kids throughout the years finish school, get married and have pea "grandchildren". Hard to believe many of these kids have grown up before our eyes.
Anyway. My son, an only child, is all grown up and has 2 boys of his own. They are 4 and 1. They are the most perfect, lovable, etc. etc. grandchildren on the planet. The 4 year old, however has a mind of his own, much like his Daddy did. You see where this is going, right?
I was babysitting last night when Mr. 4 decides to go swimming in his clothes. As "the Mom" I would have discouraged it and would have preferred a bathing suit. Then I remembered how my son and his best friend would explore everyday the creek behind our house. Soaking wet clothes every single day.
Grandma, sitting from the front row seat in her lawn chair, sweetly smiles and merely said, "Are you having fun sweetheart?"
I am sure that others have similar payback moments. *In full disclosure, my son and DIL laughed and just shook their heads when I relayed the story.

LOL. Good for you, grandma. I've frequently remarked that my oldest is my mom's revenge - we are sooo much alike. Mom so loved spoiling her, though she only got six years to do it.
Fortunately my girls still have a loving Nana who breaks the rules and feeds them cake for breakfast. She loves getting to be the fun one. Enjoy those grandbabies!

I dream of this day with my dd. I reminded her that one day she would have a dd just like her and she said.....
I would rather have a son like "insert ds's name." Lol!

Cute story! Your grandson sounds like he is going to be just like dad!
We have a creek behind our house too, so my girls love to play in it, especially when they were younger. Now one girl they are friends with has a big pond with in the neighborhood, so that's where they were yesterday. The "kids" (15-18) like to play in the creeks, ponds, as much now as when they were little girls! At least they were able to hose off when they got back to her house!

Go Nana! DD is staying with my mom this week in the mornings. One of their outings was to Costco, where I asked if mom could get her to pick out some leggings while they were there. She came home with an art kit. Mom was apologetic and I said, no that's what Gammies are for, to get the art kit over the clothes, and serve cake for breakfast. Or in my case serve fried chicken and homemade applesauce, both of which were things my mom would NEVER cook let alone serve when I was a kid. To this day when I'm upset or just not feeling well, I'll have fried chicken for lunch.

I have had those moments with DS. He can't stand how messy his DD's room is. I reminded him that my dad said DS's room smelled like the wrestling room in his high school!

Oh to be the grandma and not worry about the little things - being a Nana is so much funner - One day I picked up oldest dgd from school we stopped at the mall shopped for a bit - got a dessert to go Cake and ice cream - climbed in the backseat of my (brand new car) and ate it! She still talks about it 2 years later - I take her home to her daddy in time for dinner. He had the biggest smile on his face and loves the memories I make with the dgkids
I love the grands and all the fun things i get to do with them

I love it! Great story! My DD is *very* much like me in so many ways. A lot of the time it works for me because as a child I was fairly compliant and didn't rock the boat. Neither does she for the most part. At other times, like at bedtime when my night owl kid doesn't want to go to bed--like me, or when she doesn't want to get up and going in the morning--like me, ugh, it IS a curse! DH and I are going to have to make a concerted effort to get her sleeping earlier before school starts or we're all going to be in for a world of hurt for several weeks.

Not sure I'd call that "payback", sounds more like being an awesome grandma to me.

That is great!
My mom said frequently that she hoped I'd have a "me" for a child. While I was a rather bitchy teen, I was one girl. I had 3 boys. Not even close on the revenge scale ! I'm sooo looking forward to my revenge, I mean being a grandma. Can't wait to have my boys have to deal with dirty socks all over the house!!!

My niece is so like her dad. When she was 2 or 3 she was not behaving in the car. My brother was frustrated and said "Do not move another inch!" She lifted up 1 finger and said, "I moving, I moving."

My son bought me a cute plaque that says: "CHILDREN ARE OFTEN SPOILED BECAUSE NO ONE WILL SPANK GRANDMA".

Love it!!
My Mom used to tell me the same thing, couldn't wait for me to have a kid just like me. And I openly admit, I was a sh*t, wonder to this day how she didn't kill me. My DH wasn't any better than me, probably worse.
So we have a daughter, & I know both Grandma's are waiting for a little payback. Only problem, we have a daughter who follows every rule made, some I'm sure she invented herself. She walked such a straight line, we tried to knock her off it every so often. We couldn't have produced a child so totally opposite of us if we tried, it's just the way she is. She's 21 now, & I sometimes wonder whose kid we had. If she didn't look exactly like my DH's side of the family, I'd wonder if she was switched at birth.

Our jobs as Grandmas are to do just that. Whatever seems like fun that Mom & Dad won't like or won't do!
