So I'm going through and sorting all of this stuff, some of which has been packed up and hasn't seen the light of day in a decade, and I'm actually GLAD I didn't use certain things on my layouts because they haven't aged well. Epoxy shape stickers, I'm looking at YOU! Some of the worst offenders were the K & Co and Creating Keepsakes branded packs, they turned totally yellow. They were stored in regular household conditions (average temp 70 degrees year round), so no excessive heat or humidity. I haven't thrown them away yet but I probably will. What a waste. And then there are the things I wish I hadn't used, again some CK branded rub ons. I found a cute family themed album that came in a kit. I assembled it a few years ago at a retreat and was going to put the pics on the pages when I got home but never got around to that part. Opened it up to look at it to maybe finish it and saw all the little bits of dried up crumbled rub ons that had (mostly) flaked off of the pages they were put on. Again, it was something that was properly stored, so I'm not sure what I could have done differently to have avoided that scenario. Now the pages they were on look weird and in some cases don't make sense because the rub ons were used as part of the page title (the way it was designed for the project). Ugh. I'm not sure how I'm going to fix it now. Anyone else have any stories of stuff that didn't live up to the expectation long term, or am I the only lucky one? I guess I'm a little surprised that all of that Creating Keepsakes stuff has failed so miserably when they were out there vocally setting standards for everybody else!

That is frustrating! Whenever I am going through my albums I should be going through with a glue pen to stick things back down. Especially thickers!
I have heard about rub ons doing that. I haven't used many, but they haven't flaked off yet. Yet!
A lot of the damage to my pages and products are due to toddler fingers.

Never had stuff packed up at all. So why was it packed and why are you unpacking it now?

I learned the hard way early on that Thickers always require extra adhesive! There's nothing more frustrating than looking through an album to find the title has fallen off and is in a pile at the bottom of the page protector! That may also be one reason why I don't use titles much anymore!

Never had stuff packed up at all. So why was it packed and why are you unpacking it now? A lot of it was stuff I bought when I had my store and had no time to scrap my own stuff so it just sat on a shelf in my office. Closed the store, moved the business home, got busy helping with elderly parents, had a baby, parents died, we moved, then it took three more years to get the money to build out my studio in the new house. Construction was finally complete this past February, and I've been unpacking stuff ever since then. Most of the stuff I bought way back when I actually still like and will probably use, but some of it now can't be used because it has discolored, dried out or is otherwise unusable due to product failure. I'm not talking about the stuff being packed up per se, but the fact that things that were supposed to be "archival safe" blah, blah, blah, and that it hasn't exactly held up to the hype or the promises. It's pretty disappointing.

That may also be one reason why I don't use titles much anymore! I've hesitated to buy Thickers for that very reason. I've even seen some packages of them in the store where all the letters were all piled up at the bottom of the package! I've seen some of the Disney Jolee layered stickers in the packs where the layers have fallen apart while they were still hanging on a peg in the store too. Gives me a lot of confidence in the product--not!

All of my rub-ons on layouts are fine, but I agree that the epoxy embellishments haven't aged well. I had lots of Making Memories epoxy embellishments (buttons, and small tags) that have peeled apart. They aren't actually on any pages because they cost so much money, I felt guilty using them!
I do have epoxy stickers (Autumn Leaves/Foofala) that are still in good condition.

I bought one set of epoxy stickers and hated them. They turned yellow really fast and left an oily residue.

The first thing that came to my mind is the Zig 2-way pens. All those die cuts I used it on are coming apart.

epoxy stickers are the WORST. they don't hold up through time. yup I didn't use some right away because years later, they are all yellow and warped. glad I saved myself that headache.
the CK brand rub ons were horrible too. they should be called rub-ons-not because they don't come off that sheet.
thank goodness my MM rub ons are still good 10 years later. some embellishments have adhesives that weakened but I just use new Scor tape or glue on them.

I always thought they had a decent amount of adhesive on them in the first place so I am glad they are in good condition still.

The first thing that came to my mind is the Zig 2-way pens. All those die cuts I used it on are coming apart. I abandoned those glue pens years and years ago during my stamping days because everything I ever made with them fell apart. The only thing that stuff was good for was sticking on glitter and even that is questionable! Another thing that I ended up throwing away barely used are all those stupid gel pens. I've probably bought a hundred of those things over the years and I don't think I ever used a single one until all the ink inside was gone. They always dried out in the ball point of the pen long before the ink ran out! On the flip side of that coin, I'm still using the same set of Stampin' Up markers (made by Zig) that I bought maybe 15 years ago or more. Now that was a REALLY good investment!

I also found that epoxy stickers want to shrink up on the sheets they come on, that and the yellowing had me leery of them.

Oh man, that stinks! But yeah, better that they aren't in your albums. I had some Making Memories epoxy alphabet letters that turned yellow. On a layout I also used a cheap adhesive tape runner from Walmart for awhile and some of the stuff I used it on is coming apart. Whenever I open those earlier albums I end up doing repair work. Thank goodness I didn't use it too long. I also agree that the Zig 2-way pen didn't hold up. I haven't noticed issues with rub-ons. I didn't use them too much though so I don't have a lot to worry about.

I use Tear Mender on Thickers. After 30 seconds nothing is moving anywhere. It is also great for thick embellishments, fabric, small pets .

The Heidi Swapp alphas chipboard alphas had the worst adhesive and her rub ons were terrible - they all cracked in the package and would not rub on well. I still have two packs in my drawer - I really should stop fooling myself that they'll be good enough to use on a project and just toss them.

Add me to the list of those who hate their glue pen & epoxy stickers. So far that's all I've encountered.
Keeping my fingers crossed that if everything starts to fall off my pages it will be after I am dead & buried.

Thickers, for sure. I've had rub-ons that were totally unusable - remember those little tape runner ones----maybe Daisy D's. They never just rolled on like they were suppose to you had to cut it and use a burnishing tool. Such a pain.

They were part of a class kit I got at a convention or something and never got my project finished. Guess now I won't either, at least not with those rub ons. Bummer!

You should try yours, maybe it was just mine. or a bad batch. I put mine in a baggie to use them on mixed media projects....but I'm not sure where they are at the moment.....(whistling while my eyes rove over my stash...)

I bought heaps of dollar store epoxy stickers back in the day and they have not aged well I gave the remainder to my kids to craft with but the cloud 9 design ones from fiskars are still perfectly fine. I agree with the zig two way pens, everything that I used them on has fallen apart and I have had no luck with vellum adhesive either. The spray kind has lost it's stick and the first roll of scotch vellum tape I bought has discoloured over time so you can see it under the paper, that one drives me nuts most of all.
