Not afraid to go but of course the last movie I saw in a theater was Poseidon in 2005. I would rather wait for Netflix or red box if I want to watch one. There honestly hasn't been anything interestingly enough to warrant the cost of admission to us.

I wouldn't be afraid to go to the movies.
Shootings happen all over, every day.
It has happened in libraries, in malls, in schools, on the street, in grocery stores, in private homes.
I can't let fear rule my life or I'd never leave my house.

Not worried about a shooting. I'm more concerned that there might be bed bugs in the seats.

I'm not afraid of going to the movies in particular. But I do have a heightened awareness there and many others places of how random violence happens. I'll admit to being more thoughtful about my surroundings and the people around me. I used to be pretty oblivious to all that, but no more. Which is probably a good thing... not necessarily a live in fear thing.

No. I just feel like risk is everywhere, so I'd have to stay home to avoid it.
The single event that affected me as a personal violation was 9/11, as I was so close to it. Completely shook my sense of safety to the point that now nothing surprises me. Sad to say.

No. I'm not going to live in fear of something that is extremely unlikely.

I don't do movie theaters that often. But for other reasons I dont like the filthy sticky floors and I'm afraid of lice or bed bugs. They only people I know IRL who have gotten Luce got them in the theaters ( I know I know limited experience in a bubble ) and one of the theaters near here had a bed bug infestation last year. So I'd have to really want to see the movie in the theater to overcome those reservations before I even think about criminals.

Three of us went to see Ant Man yesterday. When we got to the ticket counter, there was an older man complaining about something (what I couldn't determine.) I was next in line but had given him plenty of personal space. At one point, he suddenly turned and just stared at me. I maintained eye contact which seemed to surprise him. He finished his interaction with the ticket lady and just stood off to the side. I purchased our tickets and walked past him. We got about a third of the way through the lobby, I turned and then saw him out in the parking lot.
On any other day, I would just have written him off as eccentric. Yesterday, I made a point of memorizing his appearance. Two out of three of us were carrying. All three of us have permits and practice regularly. So, to answer the original question...No, I am not afraid of going to the movies. I am probably more aware than ever of my surroundings lately.

Yup! All the crunching, munching, slurping, rattling bags, uncouth sloths , untrained children, entitled brats........
That is enough to keep anybody out of the theater.

I have a social phobia so it is hard for me to go to the movies any way. but it will be a while before I go to another movie. It took me over a year to go to a movie after the first stupid bastard. That was before therapy.
I need to find another therapist. It is so hard to find them in this town that is covered on my insurance.

No, but I do make myself notice where the closest exits are and map out a strategy to get out. Never even thought about that until after the Aurora shooting. I mean, I did see the exits, just didn't map out a strategy to get out.

Fears are not something any of us choose to have. And we all have different fears. I don't think being afraid to go to the movie theater means you are letting fears rule your life anymore than my fear of heights keeping me from skydiving is letting fear rule my life. We just have a few things we opt not to do because we have a few fears. I think that's fairly normal. I know people who won't walk in unfamiliar neighborhoods due to fear of dogs. And people who are afraid to swim in bodies of water as opposed to pools. Our fears don't tend to be logical, so us giving a hundred good reasons why someone shouldn't be afraid might not really do anything to change those fears. yes, I know there is a very sturdy barrier that keeps me from plummeting to the ground as I stand on the observation deck of a tall building, but that isn't enough to make me want to go ahead and walk right to the barrier. It's definitely illogical. I own that. But it doesn't change my fear. I think that it's if and/or when we realize that we have far more than just a few fears, that we have to say "Wow. This really is changing my quality of life and perhaps it's time to see someone about getting help with this." So, yes, I definitely understand why some people just can't shake the fear of the movie theaters, even if it's not a fear that I share. I also think that what one person considers a fear another might just consider a precaution. In the threads about locking doors at gas stations and such, the people saying that they lock the doors may feel it's a very logical and well thought out precaution. While to the ears/minds of those who never even considered a need to do those things, they may sound like fears instead.

No, I am not afraid. If something is going to happen like that when I am around, it will happen. I have no control on when a lunatic will show up...it could happen anywhere, anytime but I won't walk through life being afraid to go places.

I have been more afraid since a friend of ours was shot and killed at the movies. Also, in the mid 80's I was in a theater and there was a bomb scare and we had to be evacuated because some idiot put a pipe bomb in the restroom. So going to the movies has not been my favorite thing for a long time. I am afraid of lice and bed bugs.( I wonder how and how often they clean those seats?)
My kids are going to a convention next weekend and I am concerned about that too. I tend to have anxiety over lots of things though.

No. But we do sit at the back of the theater. We live in a Podunk town, though, so not much risk, really.

I'm not concerned about a live shooter in a theater. I'm more concerned about the multiple people in the theater who think they can fire back at said live shooter in a dark theater. I think they are more likely to kill innocent bystanders.

No. But since the first movie theater shooting, I always take note of the exits and make an exit plan when I sit down.
