So, I made a COSTLY mistake. I have a USB flash drive with *everything* on it which of course I didn't back up. This morning I accidentally tripped on my laptop cord which caused it to flip over and fall. The laptop (and my ankle) are fine, but my USB flash drive was plugged in and it bent and can no longer be recognized/read by the computer.
I called a couple of "data recovery" places and am learning that it will likely be in the $500 - $600 range to recover the files (if it's even possible). I've also looked at some youtube videos that talk about opening it up and soldering it back together. I definitely don't have the skills (or tools) to do that.
So, I'm not sure if I have other options. And I'm trying to justify spending $600 on something that costs less than $10 + my own stupidity in not backing it up. But I need those files.
Has anyone had success with recovering files from a USB flash drive? Did you do it yourself? Take it somewhere?
Thanks!
