On financial things, I defer to my husband. But when it comes to kids' plans, I rarely check it through with my husband- unless I think he might have plans. Usually it's just,"Our daughter is having her friend spend the night."

The last thing I deferred to my spouse on was circumcision of my boys, which I regret.

No, I can't really think of an instance where I defer to him. I know there are times he will send them to me, but it's because I manage their schedules more. This is pretty much the situation in my house too ... We do sometimes have to "fight" over who has to drive a child to a sleepover or friend's house ... I hate being Mom Taxi

I have 3 teens and there are ALWAYS kids in my house. I cannot even tell you how much I spend in groceries or you all would be disgusted. I'm a single parent and I want my kids where I can see them and I know what they are and are NOT doing. My high credit card is worth every cent to me because it's better than any of the alternatives. I know what you mean about the groceries! We spend a ton when the girls want to have a few of their friends over. My husband sees all the stuff I buy and pizzas I order, and he thinks he will get the leftovers. But the girls eat it all before he gets a chance. At least nothing goes to waste.
They are pretty good at taking turns going to each others houses. My budget is happy about that!

I consult, but I don't defer unless it's something that needs him to decide whether he can fix it vs needing a professional repair.

I defer to my DH when it comes to deciding what kind of electronics/IT we have around here. For one, I don't want to think about it. And he understands this topic very well.

The only thing I can think of, and it's not really deferring to DSO, is when we are out somewhere I am never the one to say "Do you want to go home?" or "Can we leave now?" I usually wait for him to make the decision about what time we leave. I can't explain why, I only noticed recently that I do this. The exception would be if I am bored out of my brain and I might start shooting him looks. When it comes to having friends over for DS, both of us say yes all the time. And more often than not that includes a sleepover. And it is every weekend without fail. raindancer the reason you mentioned that you sometimes want to say no to your kids having friends over is so you can have peaceful me time..... funnily enough, this is the exact reason why I say yes!!! If DS didn't have a friend over, he would be annoying me and I would never get any me time!! My nineteen year old son still asks every time if his gf can come over. They have been dating five years. I always say yes. I actually enjoy having her here. Thankfully if she is here there aren't other kids around. My husband wouldn't care either way. Ever. My husband and I felt the same about our daughter's boyfriend. He was welcome anytime! Isn't it great when you really enjoy your son's girlfriend or daughter's boyfriend! I agree, it is great - I adore my DD's boyfriend. To the point where I (jokingly) told her that if she broke up with him, I'm choosing to keep him and she's on her own!

We feel so fortunate that his parents just love our daughter and treat her like one of their own. I know my girls are always very nervous meeting a boys parents.

My husband always makes the final decision about when to buy new cars and what cars to buy.
Car shopping bores me to death and I hate haggling over car prices, so I always turn that responsibility over to my husband, who loves everything about the car buying process. He knows that I am very partial to one make and model of car, and I tell him what colors I like and then he goes out and finds me a car. Last time he bought me a new car before I was ready to trade in my old car. However, my warranty had expired and he thought there were some expensive repairs coming up, so he went ahead and bought me a new car and I deffered to his judgment.
I know this sounds very 1950s, but in other important areas, he defers to my judgment. For example, I make all the decisions regarding insurance because many years' ago I worked in the industry and it's an area that I know more about than he does. He'll ask questions, but in the end, he always defers to my judgment.
