We own an LL Bean Jr. backpack. Here's an example: junior original bookpackDo you see the little loop at the top for hanging it on a hook in a closet/cubby/locker/etc.? The loop on ours tore off. Now I know if I complained to LL Bean about it, they'd replace it, but that seems like such a waste. The bookbag is in beautiful shape otherwise, even though we've had it for years. So, I can't sew at all. And I don't own a machine. So I want to bring the bag to someone in town to fix it. But we lost the original loop. Where could I find something like that? It's a strong fabric loop, but I don't even know what to call the fabric. Some sort of strong nylon or something? I imagine if someone rolled up a tube of similar fabric they could use that to make a new loop, but I don't know what to even purchase to bring to the person. Or do I just bring the bookbag and let her supply the fabric and pay her for that as well? I know I sound like an idiot here, but I am so out of my element with all things sewing related. Thanks in advance for helping me to sound less ridiculous when I go to the shop to try to have it repaired.

I would take it to a shoe repair shop and let them provide their own material.

If you live in a decent size community you probably have a shoe repair place. They will be able to fix it for you and likely have the webbing you need to replace it. If they don't you can buy that strap by the yard at any sewing goods place.
eta: It is called flat nylon webbing.

I would take it to a shoe repair shop and let them provide their own material. Before I even finished reading your post, my first thought was to go to a shoe repair shop. That is absolutely what I would try first. And if I didn't have one of those anywhere nearby, my second option would be the dry cleaner; they do alterations and repairs.

Okay, I never, ever would have thought of a shoe repair place, but I do actually know that there is one a few towns away from me, so I can try going there first. Thanks everyone!
