Ask tande how mice worked out for her in her car LOL. They won't bite. Just hire a pest control guy (my classmate does this for a living) and I just text him when I need something. Mice won't bite. You do need to get rid of them, though.

A trick I learned from a classic car guy to keep mice out of the garage. Get a few out plastic containers with lids and punch a bunch of holes all over it. Fill with moth balls and set one on each corner of the garage door and 1 or 2 under the car. Mice hate the smell.

A couple of years ago we had some mice in the basement; first time for us! I was frickin' frackin' freaked out. I shudder even thinking about it. OP--Get someone out there to do whatever they do. It'll help you sleep at night, lol.

Personally, I don't think I would like to spend any time in garage filled with it. It's probably worse for you than smoking.

You mice phobics would never survive living in Connecticut. The surest signs of autumn are crisp nights, beautiful leaves, and field mice moving into your house.

With an old car that has been stored in a barn - oh yes. You will be getting mice. They have probably chewed up all the wiring and have made nests in the engine compartment, trunk and anywhere else they can get to (which is everywhere).
We have several classic cars, a shed of classic tractors, a shed with trucks and semis and a shed with our work tractors, choppers, and combines. Controlling mice is a constant battle.
The mothball trick.... well you will just have a smelly garage and car AND mice. It really does't work. Keep some mouse poison in the car and in the garage - but if you have pets, this will be an issue of concern.
Mice used to really bother me - and I will still go on an all out war if I have one in my house. But I don't' freak out like I used to. I have even stomped a few! My bravery has grown leaps and bounds - I still hate them.

I've always heard that dryer sheets will keep them away. When my DD and SIL close up their lake cabin for the winter they spread dryer sheets all over and they've never had mice yet.

We do the dryer sheet thing too at our hunting shack and it doesn't really keep them away. I still find mouse poop in our beds when we've been gone for a while. Now that said, I think I would much rather have MICE than LICE! I picked up a notice today when I dropped off DD at her summer program that there has been a case of head lice in her classroom. Great. Just great. I don't even want to *consider* the thought that she may have lice in her waist long curly hair! Just thinking about it has been making me feel itchy all morning. I am freaking too.

Maybe giving the car to his bro isn't such a bad idea after all. Has the car been brought to your house?

Oh nuts! But if the car sat that long it's really no surprise. Seems like there has to be a way to fumigate the inside of the car, have you called pest control? Once you get rid of them it should be a done deal though, if that makes you feel any better.
