ME!! My DD and I are spending Friday there and I'm so excited! We'll spend a couple hours at the vendor fair and then have a Basic Grey class late afternoon. I'm sure my wallet will be much lighter when I leave!

Well I just got back. I'm sure you noticed how packed it was on Friday, just like last year. On Saturdays you can get near the booths. And people were buying so that was good. I was there from 10 to 4 on Fri and 9 to 5 on Sat exclusively in the vendor fair. Prices were a bit higher and selection smaller so I was able to keep to my budget of $100 a day.
I'm glad it is well attended. I enjoy everything except the cement floors because after 2 days walking them even my danskos are no match.
What did you buy there? I got mostly paper as usual.

I went and bought mostly dies. I was surprised that it was more crowded Friday than Saturday.

I went! I didn't buy any paper - I was looking for specific lines and didn't find them - but I bought some stamps and embellishments. I also took 3 classes and attended the crop on Friday night.
MDscrapaholic, did you take the Basic Grey card class on Friday at 4:00? I was in that class.

paperaddictedpea, yes I did! I'm glad they only did three cards because I didn't like the rest of them! I was sitting in the front row far right with my DD. I was also looking for specific lines (Authentique Playful) and didn't find them . I thought it was much smaller than last year, some of the vendor booths were not there. I purchased some dies and a Christmas paper pack. I did meet Tiffani of Totally Tiffani (scraprack) and bought her Die-namics case, wish I had gotten two, it's full already! I also got a brush pen that adds sparkle to paper. I can't remember the name of it, I got it in the back corner where all the Copic markers were. I think it was a "wink of Stella", not sure. That was the first time I went to a CKC and came home with money in my pocket. I usually buy a lot of paper, but it just wasn't there. I didn't see any Authentique, Basic Grey or Pink Paislee. Did see some Echo Park and Crate Paper but they were not on sale. I saw a pack of October Afternoon Treasure Map but didn't buy it, it was marked $31.95. Hope you all had fun! Glad to know there were some other RefuPeas there!

paperaddictedpea, how was the Friday night crop? I've never attended one of those but would love to! Is it crowded? Do you have room to do anything?

In the old days CKC crops were awful - crowded and miserable. Now they are not as well attended so there is a full table for each scrapper. The prizes and giveaways are sparse because manufacturers just aren't around to donate good stuff.
The reason I didn't crop there this year is because it starts at 7pm - 2 hours after the vendor show closes and it only goes to 11 and costs $28. I'd rather use that money on the vendor floor. I cropped at two local venues instead.

MDscrapaholic, despite attending many CKCs this was my first CKC crop - we had fun but I'm not sure I'll do it again next year. Two friends and I split the cost of a reserved table, and the crop tables were two of the long classroom tables put together (to make a large rectangular table), so we had plenty of room. I didn't notice how many people were seated at each non-reserved table but there were definitely multiple people per table. The crop appeared to be sold out - they made numerous announcements looking for tables with empty chairs, and actually had to add an extra table near us to accommodate the last few people. Some vendors were there selling merchandise and a few of them did giveaways, but I wasn't really paying attention so I'm not sure what types of prizes were given out. I didn't participate, but there was some type of game where you could buy paddles and bid on various merchandise and possibly win things very cheaply. There were quite a few door prizes given out as well. I won 3 bottles of October Afternoon Sprinklers color mists, which was surprising because I never win anything! One thing I didn't like it that they had only one entrance for all crop attendees, which made entry into the crop area super slow. We were in classes until 5:00, and by the time we grabbed some dinner and got to the crop area it was 6:45. There was already a huge line and they didn't open the doors until exactly 7:00 so it was nearly 7:30 by the time we got through the line, found our table and sat down. There were quite a few people behind us in line so they would have gotten started even later. Also, the reserved tables were assigned but there was no map or guidance, so you basically had to wander around (which was challenging because there were lots of people and totes in the aisles) until you found your name. If you do decide to try a crop, I'd definitely recommend buying a reserved table - it's a bit more expensive but I think it was worth it. Also, plan to get in line really early or else you'll spend some of your valuable cropping time waiting in line!

I went also. I had fun as always and go every year. I took all of the ck 12x12 classes which were great plus the travel album class - great also. I didn't spend as much as other years either. No newer paper lines really. I did buy the simple stories so fancy collection, but that was the only thing I saw on my list. It was 21.25. I also saw the treasure map collection same store Nicole Peterson For 31.25. I thought I was reading it wrong ! I stopped over at pages in time LSS in Lititz and bought a few things. Even they did not have a lot of new things. I was looking for the amt tan rise and shine. And shimelle true stories. They had neither. I hope they continue these conventions. There are no LSS here except one.

Reading this has me all excited about the Houston CKC at the end of the month.
I only went once before, last year, to shop and then crop on Friday. I was surprised at how not packed the crop was. There weren't empty tables but even people who didn't reserve an entire table got to work no more than 3/4 to a huge banquet table.
This year I wanted to have the full scrapbook convention experience (one of my bucket list items) so I signed up for several classes and two of the crops. I'm going to the Thursday daytime preview crop and the Saturday night party crop. Probably not the Friday night crop because I have a full day of classes that finish at 7:30 and not only would I miss the first half hour, but I want to have enough time to leave the hotel, get a decent meal, and then be back at the hotel and in bed before midnight because I have a full day Saturday too. I have a scrappy friend who may be there Friday only and if she wants to stay to crop, and there are still crop tickets available, I'll do Friday too. But that's a big maybe at this point, I'm not buying a ticket ahead of time.
My only complaint about the crop last year was the PA system the crop hosts were using was very loud and the music got a little bit loud too.
