But I don't like that I have to scroll back up to the top of the thread to get to the next page.

Yeah that is kind of weird. I kept looking for a button at the end of a thread and realized I'd have to go back to the top.

Actually, now that I'm on my Kindle, the next page option just kind of floats at the top of the thread as I scroll down. But on my iMac, I have to go back to the top. Weird!

I thought the same thing earlier when I was on my macbook, but now I see that it's at the top of the screen "floating" as you put it.

If you click on that little gear looking thing (next to the like button) on the last post on the page, you can select Back to Top from the drop down box and it takes you back up without having to scroll

If you're on a laptop, you can just hit your Home button and you'll go back to the top.

My "Next" button floats while I scroll (on my Mac laptop), but where is the "participated" button that you speak of?

I agree. The equivalent of Participated was several layers deep on that other board (What was its name again?).
