My favorite recent reads have been Girl Underwater and Sisterland. I agree. Girl Underwater is very good. It's about a college aged girl who is involved in a plane crash. I really enjoyed it. Another good book is The Magician's Lie is also very good. Here's a part of the description from Amazon: "debut novel in which the country's most notorious female illusionist stands accused of her husband's murder - and she has only one night to convince a small-town policeman of her innocence." What kinds of books do you like to read?

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm off to google them all and pick out a couple
I don't really have a preference (other than no horror stories). I just like a well written story to get lost in on the plane, or while I'm always waiting for my family to wake up in the mornings LOL
It kind of funny that when I think back to vacation memories, I always remember where I was going when I read a really good book!

Just one book, maybe All the Light You Cannot See? This!!!! Not a easy read though. It's so beautifully written you want to read certain parts over again. One of my most favorite books. For a lighter read anything by Liane Moriarty. What Alice Forgot, The Husband's Secret and Big Little Lies were all wonderful!!!!

My best read so far this summer was the Wright Brothers. Obviously, not fiction, but such a well written book. McCullough is such a wonderful story teller, and the personalities of the brothers and family members was so interesting. I learned a lot, and was thoroughly entertained.
not to be snarky, but I absolutely could not stand the Glass Castle. And yet, Glass Castle was one of my all-time favorites.

I always read Elin Hilderbrand's new book out by the pool every year. They are all set on Nantucket and I like to imagine I'm there! This year's The Rumor was pretty good. I just got All the Light We Cannot See, but haven't started it yet. Loved all of Liane Moriarty's books!

I read two books that got my attention. I just finished "The Truth According To Us" by Annie Barrows. It was a book set in the south and told in layers. It kept my attention.
The other book is titled "My Grandfather Would have Shot Me" by Jennifer Teegue and Nikola Sellmair. This was a memoir told after Jennifer discovered that her grandfather was the head of the concentration camp featured in Schindler's List. He did horrific things and this book was how the children of Nazi's came to terms with their ancestors deeds. We all fight hard battles but that one would have to be difficult.

The Girl With All the Gifts...it's a zombie novel, but told from a child zombie's point of view. I really liked it.

So this isn't light summer reading, but it is very interesting - Finding Jake. Very interesting and heartbreaking read. But seriously, if you are looking for fluff, this is not it. I was finally convinced today to order this book ... now to patiently wait for it to arrive!

I really enjoyed The Girl On the Train ... the main character is a mess but the story does draw you in I'm halfway through this book right now, and yes it does draw you in. I had to force myself to put the book down this morning when I had to get up for work!

All The Light We Cannot See is by far the best book I have read this year. I have also enjoyed some Luck by Jane smiley and aA Spool Of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler. I read Some Luck and thought it was fairly boring because nothing really happened. I did think it was interesting how it was told year by year over a number of decades. And I will admit that I'm thinking about reading the sequel when it comes out only to see if something happens. I'd be interested to hear what you enjoyed about it because we must have the same taste in books because I loved All the Light We Cannot See, it was wonderful!

This one's been out for a couple of years, but I read "Beautiful Ruins" by Jess Walter earlier this summer and really loved it. It's set in two time periods (in separate places), so it had a transcendent quality.
