Soccer season starts tonight and I have 2 kids playing. Practices are back to back so I have 2 hrs of hanging out at the soccer field.
I'm looking at it as a scrapping opportunity. I'm going to sort my 300 prints I just ordered. Any other ideas of what I can do while sitting in the car?

Sit in the backseat and go crazy. Get a little lap desk. Glue stick, scissors, a pack of stickers. GO!

Do you do Project Life? You can now do LOs through the app and send them to be printed, all through your phone. Even if you don't do PL, you might want to take a look because I think you can print 8x8 and 12x12, so it might be useful for insert pages when you have more than 1 of an event, etc. that you want to scrap.

Great idea! I would put some kits together with your pictures and pack up some basic supplies. You could get a lot done in that amount of time.

Write the journaling for future pages? I knit in the car during soccer practice (or read) because I haven't figured out how to turn my car into a scrapbook studio

I did this on a trip recently...I brought a few things, already cut to size, and made cards for my Bunco group. I made 7.

I've done cards before. It's hard to do big stuff, but with the car not moving, perhaps I could spread out more. Love the lap desk idea blemon meridon, i have an android. Wait. That's not a good excuse, I have an ipad. Haha!

Balzer Designs has lots of great travel kit ideas on her website. Most of them are geared towards more messy/art journalling type creating, but I think you could easily adapt her packing ideas to more papery creating.

do you do hand stitching on your layouts? I know someone who does that whilst sitting on the edge of the field. We are past that stage of sports training etc, but it was frowned upon to sit in the car. You had to sit & gossip with all the other mums, or you & child would be ostracised. Oh how I used to wish I could sit in the car & read a book! I didn't SB then, or I would have been hand-stitching &/or planning for sure.

I sort photos....edit photos on my laptop....work on PL. I usually put a little kit together of what I will need, a pen, etc. Even if I only get the photos and cards into slots, I am making progress!

If you can get WiFi, you could edit photos or watch videos.
All great ideas, ladies! I would never have thought of doing some scrapbook prep.

What? You won't be on the field taking photos? That's where I'd be

I'd pre-plan pages and edit photos.
Back when I worked for my LSS I used to cut the papers and package my card class kits. It was a great use of time! I didn't actually make the cards, just cut the paper to my measurements from my already made samples and packed the kits. Sometimes I then wrote the instructions, too. Just depended on if I had my laptop with me or not.

My husband has to do all the driving when we travel because otherwise he'll get carsick. I sit in the back seat and scrapbook away. I use a computer lap desk to work on. I can't really do mixed media type layouts, but I can do pretty much anything else. (And that's with the car moving!)

I remember those lovely practices. One team was three hours a day every day. It was awful. I often thought I should get a used RV and park it in the lot, I could have been all caught up with pages. Perhaps a "pop up" studio might work. Instead I just brought my Gypsy and designed stuff.

My kids are just starting to get into sports. I hate baseball with a passion. Ugg I'd rather claw my eyes out than watch a practice or game. They are so long and nothing happens, at least at my son's age.

They are so long and nothing happens, at least at my son's age. Our football practices were 3 hours a day 5-6 days a week for years, until middle school, highshcool, and now college where practices are at least that long twice a day! I always stayed - my dd grew up on fb field lol. I stayed because many years (until the HS team) because almost every year I was team mom, and I enjoyed watching and learning about the sport. Also where my boys played it was a very social thing - nearly every player had at least 1 parent stay. We enjoyed helping the teams and chatting, relaxing, letting the little ones play .... sometimes getting dinner togther after or a dad bbqing for the boys after the practice. Pool parties, sleepovers, campouts, mom's night out. Loved that group of parents from 1st grade til now! If someone missed we say, "J did his, he got a TD or big tackle" and we took pics of each other's kids. I started a sb group with those moms! When one son started his MS team and the other HS team , no parents stayed - and we had moved out of state..but everyone went to all the games and scrimmages and hung out after. Our boys have graduated, but we are all still friends. Any- off topic but that is why some of us stay Oh and 1st month at MS practice one son tore his shoulder and ended up with a 7 hour surgery to repair it and I wasn't there. ugh. I have never been a worried mama, my boys are tough.. I was shocked to get the call but the coaches handled it well....my boy had a year off and is fine and was drafted for a college team. Kind of ironic though after years on the field.... Boy sorry for getting so far off topic, just brought back the memories!

doesitmatter I love that you made such lasting friendships that way. I can't beleive practices were that long though! You must live in the south! Well the first practices were cancelled due to rain, so last nigsht was the first. I spent most of the time chomping the corners off my photos for PL. I don't go home between because I don't have time to. I live out of town. I'd be home for 15 minutes tops. Also DS2 has practice at another location closer to his coache's house. So I'll drop him off and be late picking DS1 up. I have seriously considered the RV idea. That would give my younger kids somewhere to play too. They could play on the playground, but lets not get crazy here.

doesitmatterThat makes sense if there is a community aspect to it. Still that is a huge amount of time, 15 hrs a week for parents to give up, even if there is socializing, not counting games. I won't let my DS do football, he doesn't have the body type nor personality. It isn't as big a deal here compared to other places. I do know that baseball can be just as tediously long though (and a lot less interesting to watch). I'm so not a sports mom.
