Anyone have any idea when (or if it is already) coming out? I think the mini is going to fit better in my space. Thanks in advance!

I have seen quite a few videos that show using a laminator instead of the Minc. They do the same job. You might get lots of options that way.

I use a laminator because I couldn't justify the purchase of yet another machine. I'm pretty happy with the results.

I'm afraid to watch foiling videos...I don't need another obsession! Where did you get your laminator? We have one at school, but I'm afraid I'd mess it up somehow.

I just had an ordinary laminator from an office supply store and I think Jennifer McGuire uses s $15 Scotch brand one she picked up from Amazon., My laminator uses a carrier sheet which is a piece of light card stock and I also put the card I'm foiling inside a folded piece of copy paper so there's no mess.

Hmmm...for $15 I might have to check it out. A laminator might come in handy anyway for teacher stuff like making flash cards. I think I totally just justified a scrappy purchase as a tax write-off! (just kidding, in case there are any IRS peas lurking)

Just an FYI...Jennifer McGuire uses a regular laminator to do her foiling stuff. She links all the products she uses to a place to purchase said product and the laminator she linked to was only $19 or $29 on Amazon. I think that is significantly less than the Minc machine. ETA: I didn't read the whole thread before I posted. I see others suggested a cheap laminator too.

Just adding that I think the trick to foiling with a laminator is to use a laminator that gets hot enough.

Just adding that I think the trick to foiling with a laminator is to use a laminator that gets hot enough. Mine claims to not get too hot so it's safe, but it still does a good job. I just let it heat up until the light goes off indicating it's ready. Jennifer McG says she lets hers hear up for about 20 mins, Mine probably heats up for 10 or so?

Mine is just a $15 one off amazon. In fact I bought it a year ago and had never used it until yesterday. I'm happy with the results though.

I got a $20 Scotch laminator from WM. There are two settings, a 3 and a 5. I set mine on 5 and let it heat up until the light turns green and then go about 10 minutes longer. I use a piece of parchment paper as my carrier. Works like a charm!!

I've just been using a piece of copy paper as my carrier. That is what I saw in Jennifer McGuire's video and it has been working for me.

I love foil details but my printer is an inkjet. Boo. Do you guys know any trick to avoid having to go to a copy place every time?

Foiling only works with laser printing, unfortunately and I don't have a laser printer either. But you could get a whole stack of things printed at the copy shop at once? Eg I don't think they have to be freshly done. There are other methods to try like using stamps with embossing powder and dies with adhesive sheets (I use the thin Stick It sheets and have had good results with stamps/embossing powder. If you haven't seen them Jennifer McGuire had some videos with all the techniques

I love foil details but my printer is an inkjet. Boo. Do you guys know any trick to avoid having to go to a copy place every time? Heidi Swapp sells some designs that already have the toner on them so you can run them thru the machine with any foil you want. She also sells some papers that are all toner so that you can die cut the paper and then foil it. Lots of options for you even if you don't have a laser printer!

I've been playing around with foiling for a while, in fact, Renee (Naby64) posted a Jennifer McGuire video and after watching it, I realized I HAD some of that foil! Had bought a few months before the church thrift shop. This was old foil back when it was popular around 1989, I know because of the date on the price tag. Anyway, I need to do more updating but the link below is to my blog where I've compiled all the info I've found AND all the things I've learned while doing the various versions of foiling! Haven't done much fabric foiling yet. Renee and I have the same Scotch 902 laminator, just heat it on 5 and an extra 15 minutes after the indicator light turns blue. Hope this helps!
