So I purchased a paper pad at Ross about 6 months to a year ago. It is made by AC. I went to cut out the 3 x 4 cards and 4 x 6 cards and some are too small. I would say 80 percent are the correct size. But the rest measure about 3 3/4 x 6 and 3 x 3 3/4. I'm still happy I bought the pad for $6.99 because I like the designs. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed seconds too.

It's poor attention to detail by scrapbooking companies. I think they are trying to mass produce thing rather than pay attention to detail like spelling, proper cutting, enough adhesive or what have you.
The Made In China syndrome.

I had a 6x6 paper pad from AC that had roughly the last 1/3 of the sheets turned upside down. Except as it was meant for a tear strip, it was perforated, had a hole in the center and was a contrasting pattern. I contacted AC directly and they had me send a picture to them and then they sent a new one out. They were very interested as they said they hadn't run into any other similar complaints. Very happy how they handled it.
Generally, though, I haven't seen much of what I would consider seconds out there, even at places like TJMaxx or Tues Morning.

Unfortunately, I'm betting that American Crafts doesn't think they are seconds. AC just doesn't care and they have demonstrated that because it keeps happening. Spelling error? Who cares. Wrong size cards? Who cares. Crappy quality stickers? Who cares. AC just can't get it right when it comes to quality and attention to detail. The "made in China" label equates to "made with poor quality".
People might complain about October Afternoon's slow releases but I'll take that over American Crafts poor quality control.
Full disclosure: I do buy AC products but it is always with the knowledge that I probably won't get good quality. I NEVER pay full price for AC stuff. I will pay full price for OA.

American crafts was once a ribbon company. You couldn't even find them on the internet as I googled them years ago. They are so big now they don't care. They don't have to care. You and I are just a couple of scrappers buying their products. It's tough luck for us as they own a lot of the big name companies under their umbrella. Sad isn't it?

I really haven't noticed a lot of seconds. I don't buy that much AC, although they have bought up many of the companies I like. I have noticed more and more made in China. If you are concerned about acid free products how much of the made in China products do you think are acid free? I doubt any are.

What I'm amazed at is all the spelling errors. How does that even happen? Shouldn't a product go through several quality control steps before production begins?

I've heard manufacturer's reps say "scrapbookers will buy anything if the packaging is cute and the it girls are using it".
It's pretty much true.
Look at Studio Calico's level of service and quality.

But probbaly is true for some...I have seen ladies literally by anything at conventions if there is a line for it - they think it's in demand and they want it I know when I was a new scrapper in another decade I bought some dumb stuff, but these days I am fully stocked and a more discriminating buyer. It's nothing new. A long time ago I bought a bunch of Chip Chatter alphabets to use for some class kits I was putting together and about 15% of the packs had no lower case f's and extra lower case t's. The only thing I could think of for a reason was that they were packed in China and to the people packing them, they looked the same! Unfortunately when you're trying to spell the word "friends" having an extra t in place of an f just isn't going to cut it!

Yes! I've had project life core kits cut wrong, a WRMK 4x4 that is no where near the same quality as one I bought from an American store.. There's been the odd speculation that our big craft store in Australia receives seconds as there's often things wrong.

Some of the paper pads I have bought at discount stores don't have the same paper that is shown on the front. That happened on one I bought from TJ Maxx. Most of what I have gotten from Tuesday Morning has been pretty good quality.

I bought two paper packs at Tuesday Morning that the ink on the B side of the papers had dribbled, blotched, or run. It might have been intentional, but I think it looks like the paper in those two packs were seconds. I think they were WRMK packs.
Recently I have gotten a couple of Graphic 45 pads where they were cut very slightly off on one side, so the design wasn't quite even when you cut it out (tags). I think it would be pretty hard to get it perfect, though, so I don't know if that qualifies as seconds or not.

I got some basic grey magnets at Tuesday Morning that lacked adhesive on them......all 3 packs. I also picked up a 6 by 6 crate paper pad that didn't have the same color saturation as the matching pad I had at home.It was a bit faded. For the most part, most products from TM have been up to par.

I saw some chipboard alphas at Tuesday Morning that had the design printed 'off' from the letters... the design was printed halfway on and halfway off the letters. I would definitely classify them as seconds. But then again, it was Tuesday Morning, so I suppose that can't be a surprise. OP, perhaps Ross is the same way??

One thing that drives me nuts is that the Design A 12x12 Project Life sheets (Becky Higgins Brand) do not have uniform sizes for the cards. The 3x4 cards along the middle are NOT all 3x4. I often have to trim a card. I thought I was crazy until I found others (on youtube and social media) had the same issue.

I have had some paper pads that were not true 12x12. That is irritating when you assume they are and try to cut them in half, and you get one 6" piece and one 5 5/8" piece,

I think Me, too; but I have to admit, it's a bit disconcerting that manufacturer reps have such a deprecating view of their customers. It's poor attention to detail by scrapbooking companies. I think they are trying to mass produce thing rather than pay attention to detail like spelling, proper cutting, enough adhesive or what have you. The Made In China syndrome. Yeah I think this is getting more prevalent. Do you find that this happens with product purchased from second-hand stores rather than craft stores (like Ms and HL)? So far, I haven't found anything (even when purchasing items at TM) that I felt was "seconds."
